I’ve been gambling for years now losing ridiculous amounts of money. I haven’t had a bet for 3 weeks which is the longest I’ve been since gambling then today I get a mad urge to gamble I don’t know why. I couldn’t control it I even tried to get a online account as quick as I could. I managed to stop myself but with pay day coming up I’m scared I’ll do something stupid.

Hi Conor,

We done on 3 weeks, that's great going!

The urges will come out of the blue sometimes and that's when you need to ensure blocks are in place. I used to go a good few days/weeks and think I was doing OK and then, without warning, I would find myself walking to the bookies and walking faster and faster and even breaking into a jog to get there quicker (anyone else done this?).

When I finally decided that enough was enough, I knew that that the urges would not go away and would wait for a weak moment to pounce. That's why you need to get solid blocks in places ASAP. Blocking software on all computers and devices and self-exclude from any place (physical or virtual) that you gamble. You will never make it impossible to gamble but, with sufficiant blocks, you can buy time to ride out the urges.

Keep up the good work and before you know it, that 3 weeks with be 4, then 5 then 50.

All the best

Phil
