This is my day one. This is the beginning of me ending my problems with gambling. I've joined today to get insight into how others cope and for support and advice. I have to do this for my wife and children. They love me but don't know about the burden I carry. This makes me feel trapped and I find it easy to slip back to gambling because no one monitors me or owns my struggle. I'm going to try to post everyday hopefully explaining how I overcome my daily gambling needs. Please bear with me as I'm new to all this and just hope to find strength in other users.
Hi Andy, first of all well done for coming on here and facing your problem. Just like you, I came on and wrote a similar post 31 days ago now. Since I put that I've not had a bet. I took the advice of other users who commented on my post and whenever I felt like having a bet I'd sign in on here and read what I put and what other people wrote on there posts. This helped me from falling into the trap again. First of all you should self exclude from any websites and betting shops you go to. Start putting barriers up which will help you to stop gambling if you ever feel like you need to. I know it might be hard but maybe telling your wife the extent of your gambling and how it's making you feel will make you feel less lonely about it all. This could then enable you to put in extra barriers like allowing your Mrs to take care of your expenses etc. I still live at home with my parents and I kept it a secret for them, I told them a week or so a go and they've been supportive and it just urged me to stop betting even more. Now I can't even be bothered to bet, I don't even get many urges anymore. Listen to what other people say on here, they've probably got more experience with advice and stuff than me but all I can say is if you want to stop enough, you can stop and over time it gets easier. Good luck mate
