Hello again everyone, yesterday I took a big step in the right direction. I walked into every bookies in my area and told them never to let me in again, I signed all of the paperwork and although it was slightly embarrassing I feel a huge weight lifted from my shoulders! I have self excluded before only to walk half a mile down the road to the next place but now I'm literally barred from everywhere possible!
Iv been on and off the site not really taking it as seriously as I should have, i should have done this a long long time ago, but I'm glad I have finally done it!! Now time to start saving for a future with my amazing woman!
H.
In addition to my last post I have just put restrictions on my iPhone with a list of all of the main gambling sites iv ever used and I asked my Mrs to set a password which I'll never know! So that's no high street bookies and no online bookies wahooooo! 😀
Hi,
Take the strength and balls it took to self-exclude from the bookies and set this as the foundation for your recovery. You say you've been on and off this forum so you know the difficult road you face. I hope your good lady knows about your addiction and is supporting you all the way.
What other barriers are you putting in place to give recovery another go?
Thanks.
She knows everything, iv not lied to her about anything. She dragged me out of the bookies once and it was one of the horrible experiences of my life, I can't physically find a way of gambling now, but I do spend money on a credit card which has a £400 limit that I pay off every month that doesn't let me do cash withdrawals so I'll hand my bank card to her and just use that for contactless payments for food and stuff at work. If you have any more barrier ideas id like you to share them with me please?
H 🙂
Hi Harry and welcome back buddy , we spoke the last time you were on here , I.m glad that youv'e finally taken tghe plunge as advised and self excluded and blocked your phone , I remember you saying you were in the forces and I was just wondering if you'd thought about exclusions when your ashore in Pompey or Guz , I think theres a national number now available for self exclusion , Oldham has the number on his thread I believe , so maybe post to him , apparently you send photos to them and they'll take care of exclutions for you ( I think thats how it works ) ? , Just a thought Buddy and glad to see you making the right choices : )
Alan
I am in the forces Alan but have been lucky and given temporary work at home for a month, I am banned from the casino and all bookies in Pompey but need to go in and just double remind them not to let me in, just in case I have a moment of madness and try to walk into one, there's also a couple of those fruit machine places in town which I need to go and self exclude from even though fruit machines aren't really my thing it's better to be safe than sorry!
Thats good then mate , hope you dont mind me asking , I just didn't want you to leave a door open for a drunken run ashore ! LOL !
Have a good one bud .
Best wishes !!
To be honest mate the reason I'm back here is because of a drunken mistake which led to me loosing a couple of hundred quid, not my finest hour I'll admit but i can't stop thinking about it and it's given me a kick up the a**e, so iv cut back on the drinking and I'm now on zero tolerance to gambling! Hello new addiction = exercise (haha)
I can think of some worse drunken mistakes LOL ! but yeah point taken , personally I think zero tolerance is th way forward with gambling , I'd be happy if I clould control it but realisticly I know I never can now and have just accepted it and that makes it so much easier to live with ! ,
Off for some pointless TV now so catch up with you later Harry !
Night mate .
Ps , ref the exercise , you'll be the PTI 's new best mate Ha , Ha ! Bloody club swingers !
Hi Harry, well done on excluding yourself you sound confident in tackling this head on. I'm pleased your partner is supporting you as well. I wish you well in your recovery. Can I just ask Harry how far into your relationship did you tell your girlfriend? Take care - wcid
Hi WCID, iv been with her for coming up to 7 years, we met when she was 15 and I was 16, she always knew I gambled from about 18 years old but it peaked and she stepped in around Christmas time last year when I came back from deployment after I had fluttered away all of the money I saved while working away, since then she regularly asks me if iv gambled and is ready to leave me if I do it again. Which is one of the many reasons I want to say goodbye to gambling for good, Im not gonna be able to save for a ring if I'm spending all of my time and money in the bookies.
And Alan have you served at all?
Hi Harry , In answer to your question , No I haven't mate , I did think for one moment of saying " Oh yeah , I was SBS buddy " and bigging myself up a bit 🙂 LOL ! but no , however I was a Naval Tailor for quite a few years and the firm I worked for had shops in Pompey , Plymouth , Rosyth and Gibraltar and I'd travel around to meet ships and deliver Made to measure uniforms , really enjoyed the job and have some good memories to be honest . Ive got a chippy now , a family business near one of the bases so a lot of my trade's still with the lads and the Royal Marine band as well , you just never forget some of the terminology and expressions , it's like the names you attach to one another , I could always understand why you'd call someone" Chalky" white but" Bungay williams" , whats that all about ? LOL !
Haha the names are funny if your Welsh your called taff and if your names brown then your a buster lol, if you see a lot of the marine band I take it your chippy is in Pompey?
Affected by gambling?
