Recovery jsnt about punishing yourself. Its about accepting yourself & finally allowing yourself to know that things do not have to be perfect. Pay your debts off @ a sensible rate. Its only money. Money comes & goes in our lifes what hopefully becomes important is the people in it because without them i had nothing.
Acceptance of what i have & enjoying that instead of living in the fantasy world that was gambling is so much more rewarding

Well done Michelle in giving your finances to your husband....its a great step if you have that support......it is a good idea to have your wages go to his account too that way there is no temptation.

Being alone i cannot do that but i would most definately if i could........i believe i would have been debt free 6-7 years ago had i done that when i had the chance.

i'm too good with finances for my own good........always managing to extend overdrafts and get credit cards and loans.....however the gambling has ruined my chances of paying off in time for the interest free periods.......meaning now everything is costing me a fortune in interest.............but it will slowly decrease and this time i shall not respend but close each account one by one..........i worked out that although i could get interest frozen or go bankrupt....its affect is six years damaged credit score beyond the cleared date.......and yet even the bad state i am in with debt......it still works out better to pay it all gradually and keep a clean credit rating then to ruin it with an iva/bankruptcy/debt relief order etc....

least in four to five years i will be debt free and have a excellent credit. However with a iva (which is usually 5 years long) credit rating is then ruined for a further six years after it is finished .....totalling 11 years before a mortgage will touch you.......

i hope my life is well turned around before 11 years........four is bad enough..........

Also what does mess you up is the more your credit score is damaged the higher rate of interest you get offered......and that makes paying debt so much slower.......a person with a excellent credit rating would get a loan rate of around 5%apr to 8% apr

currently the best rate i get due to my high level of debt is 29.9% apr

on a debt of £28.5k the difference is astounding........

hi wayne, yes i agree intrest wen credit is bad is absurd,,ud think it would be off putting but wen u want to gamble u just dont care.ive been in an iva in the past infact 92 k worth of debt paid off only to come back and do it all again.am now in a debt plan a charity based one.ive found them brilliant.previosly had a debt plan that wasnt a charity one and ended up in deeper debt than i thought.always worth going for a charity based one.maybe an idea for u if u have 25 k of debt ,mostly intrest is frozen and gives u chance to work out an affordable amount to pay then every month u know were u are.well done on day 22 .

I was hoping to avoid iva route....however my jobs contract ceased today so may end up in that situation but hopefully will get something sorted quick....and yes there are free services approved by government so never pay .....the ones that charge are basically making a large fee from the person in trouble and then paying very little to creditors but taking on paperwork etc... not a good idea to pay for a service you can get for free..........bit like the green card........some sites charge for that and it is free from correct site (basic health care abroad in eu) .........any weakness or need is exploited by these financial companies..... especially in the case of pay day loans....
