Everyone I’m Lewis,

I don’t really know where to start, I started gambling around the age of 17 after seeing adverts of gambling etc online and on tv, it started off harmless betting £10 once a month not really winning but nor losing much, this continued for about 18 months.

That’s when my addiction kicked in, I’m on a gap year as I’m attending Uni next year so I’m working more hours therefore have more income so I can save for uni, I went up £700 on gambling and I was on top of the world. However that recently started to decline and I’m now down nearly £2000 a lot of my money coming out of my savings and it’s got me really depressed and gambling’s the only thing I can think about.

I’m a normal kid I go out at the weekends, have a girlfriend have friends but no one really knows about my addiction and the money I have lost , I earn about £1000 a month but I’d say £400 goes to gambling, none of my family knows and we’re not a rich family whatsoever, I really want to quit and just forget about the money I’ve lost because I know it can spiral out of control and ending losing the rest of my money I’ve saved (about £2000 more) so I’ve hoped coming in to where people understand me and what I’m going through and help me feel better and give me advise on how to move on, I know it’s not going to be easy, thanks anyways, I’d love to know your stories too. Sorry if this was long 🙂

hi Lewis

where do you gamble? casino, bookies? have you tried banning yourself from these hell holes. in my experiance the gambling will only get worse as times goes on, i got to a stage where i was paid a £1800 wage and on the same day or in the night i had lost the lot, bill money, rent money, food money all because i just couldnt stop, in the end i had to hand over the control of my finances to someone that i trusted (family member) and i had to ban myself from everywhere that i attended. i think that everyone on here as experianced the same problems that you are going through, sounds as if you lost then chased your loses resulting in more loses. trust me Lewis if YOU continue gambling it WILL get a lot worse you will obtain loans and payday loans to finance your gambling as time goes on, make sure someone controls your money confide in someone you trust be honest with them and let them take over your cash flow. i was gambling from age 18 and im 40 now, nick it in the bud now, im sure for you it isnt fun or enjoyable anymore as for all of us here, all the very best!!

Hi mate, I only really gamble on the bookies on sports and esports tbh, I’ve never seen the attraction of casinos and roulettes they’ve never really drawn me in (probably for the best) it’s quite calming to know that I’m not alone in the addiction and that people like yourself have experienced it themselves. I’ve just put a deposit limit on the websites I know my card details are on of £5 a month so I hopefully will avoid using them, thanks for the advice, wishing you all the best too mate cheers

Hi Lewis, all the best on your journey. If you want to stop you must put blocks in place. Gamstop will prevent you gambling online. Exclude yourself from the bookies you use.
