thanks for the thoughts, k2, mentioning my problem right now will just cause a major meltdown in my relationships and i would probably end up homeless. i might be kidding my self here but i believe once that £2 limit is put in place, although i put £10/20 spins on now to try win £1000s, a £2 spin will not get me anything especially in a betting shop that is going to spiral down in profits due to the changes they wont pay like a fruity that i hate i never touch them.. might be kidding myself but i believe its gonna be a game changer...

Checking in for the first time, my gambling problem is play the roulette I have had this problem for about 6 years, in a lot of debt because of this addiction. Ryan

Welcome to the 2019 Challenge.

Thank you to Neil C for doing the 2018 Challenge.

it's helped me keep clean and hopefully helped a lot of other people as well.

The format is going to stay the same as previous years.

First check in by 6th Jan, and i will do the update on Monday 7th Jan & subsequent Monday’s.

This thread is open to everyone, I hope it will become somewhere that helps and inspires a large group of people to take that next step in their recovery process. We start the year in different places, some of us may have abstained from gambling for a matter of minutes, others may have gone much much longer! The aim of the challenge is simple, we are going to go a full calendar year without a bet. Or the remainder of 2019 if you are joining part of the way through.

I hope that as a group we can fill this thread with positivity and some amazing stories along the way. A place where friendships are bonded, coping mechanisms are discussed, we can offload when we need to and of course we will have plenty of milestones to celebrate along the way.

How the challenge works

Firstly, if you would like to join then all you need to do is make a post. Newcomers can introduce yourself, tell us about your journey so far, what form of gambling you have had a problem with and how many days you have been free of gambling for.

Secondly, once you have joined then to stay a part of the challenge you need to make a check in post once a week before midnight on a Sunday night. Let us know how recovery is going and how many days you are on. If you ever miss a check in you will be removed from the update list but free to rejoin at any time.

Thirdly, I will update the forum on a Monday with a list of all the active members and how many days each of you has accrued. I will run through all the milestones that have been achieved.

Finally, use this thread to develop bonds and work together as a team to make life changing decisions in 2019 There may be times we are tempted or feeling low, if so this is the place to be. Tell the group how you are feeling and I'm sure there will be plenty of advice and support out there. The low times will go and being part of this challenge will allow you to have many more highs than lows, especially as the months go by!

Here is to a gamble free 2019 good luck everyone!

Ken

Hi Ken, would love to join please. I'm on day 8. Long time user the name won't ring a bell to anyone as I kept changing it to different dates when I had different goals and after ever relapse, sily really but made sense at the time.

A little history I've manage a 2 year gamble free run but ultimately went back to old ways. I've recently gambled to a ridiculous amount and been lieing to my wife for almost a year - after promising this was the last time. I have told my wife, family and others and its a great relief to have everything out in the open. Although very painful and a worrying time hoping I don't lose my wife and can regain her trust.

I'm old school I'm an over the counter punter - horses, dogs and pretty much all sports. not an fobt player. I'm back because I need help and I know I can do it but I need to STAY STOPPED, STAY ON THIS WEBSITE. NEVER GIVE UP GIVING UP!

I hope this challenge will be a constant reminder that I'm an addict but I'm gaining control and I'd love to complete this challenge not quite the full year but I guess I'll do that next year!

Thank you Ken, thank you gamcare, it's sad to be back but good to be back. I know this is the place for me.

Checking in for the week I’ve made three weeks gamble free and I’m pleased to report I’m on day 22. Really feels like I can do it this time . Not stepping into the bingo (where I used to get my slot machine fix ) and Gamstop is my saviour in the online world . The future is brighter without gambling on the horizon.

Day 0 will say no more! It’s just a blip I couldn’t avoid being in an area I shouldn’t of been and ended up doing the usual fobt..

Everyone welcome here Alan.

All you need is a desire to stop gambling, and hopefully put the work in to stop.
