I have just logged back onto my gamcare account after a long period away and noticed it says i have been gamble free for 248 days. This unfortunaltely isnt true (actually around 7 days) and i will change this now to reflect my last gamble. Looking at that amount of time made me think how happy and well off finanically and mentally i would actally be if i did manage to stay away from gambling for that amount of time.Obviously i know this is winthin my reach as there is many success stories on here proving it. I have been on and off this forum for 3 years now and have never truly managed to kick the habit for more than a few month and i think those times are mostly down to circumstance (in the military and away for 6 month at a time with no access to gambling)

On the bright side of things i am very close to paying my large debts off and am deploying next month so thall give me a chance to save money. Im also going to try and get on this site more often to read everyone elses stories and hopefully offer some advice to other when ive managed a few month gamble free.

Good luck to everyone, Robert

Nice honest post Robert... I'm on my fifth time of trying to quit but this time I feel more concerned I'm done with gambling. It's too much stress and it ruins your life. I don't need the nonsense. Hope you managed to stay on the straight and narrow. Take care.

Thank you Change i really appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment. i couldnt agree more i would say im at my 5th or 6th real attempt at stopping, ive made too many token efforts at this these past few years and my job is stressful enough without anything added as im sure is yours. I will give your threads a look and best of luck to you also 🙂

Evening everyone.

I have indeed managed another few days without a gamble thanks for the support change. This is mainly down to lack of funds atm but a cheque clears in my bank account on tuesday and i am paid on friday so that'll be another testing week for me. i am also due to deploy mid next month so that id definately a blessing for saving money even though its hard work. The more time my mind is occupied with work the less time i have to think about gambling i suppose :).

Hope everyone else is getting on well, Robert

Keep at it Robert. My best mate is in the Royal Engineers and he has told me how some people in the military love a flutter. The same as every walk of life.

I like you am new in to 'Stopping' this ludicrous behaviour. I'm only 12 days in but I totally resonate with Change in that I'm done with the stress of it all and also the time element, being miserable all week/weekend etc etc.

Although only 12 days in, I find it useful to read the forum on here and understand there are several people in the same boat and look to see what they have done to stop gambling. It's also been useful updating my diary daily. I use to spend hours and hours stuck on my laptop gambling so what's half hour here or there reading a few posts.

All the best and stick at it.

Not Again

Hello everyone,

Thanks for the motivation Not Again it really helps. I do find this forum very helpful because as many of you will know, gambling is a very lonely addiction so its nice to hear that theres people experiencing the same things as you. My Dad has known about my addiction for years and he has preety much washed his hand of me (although i do still see him about once a month, the relationship isnt the same) not that i could blame him for that. Im just sick or proving everyone right when i slip up. Im also in a new relationship about 7 months in now and its going well (she is aware of my addiction but probally not the full extent).

Another day without a gamble, best of luck to everyone 🙂

Well done Bob... keep going and just focus on not gambling every day. The lack of stress in life is amazing once you take away all the nonsense time spent thinking about betting. I bought a rust bucket of a bike today for a tenner and spent a couple of hours sorting it out tonight. All it took was some WD40 and a bit of cleaning and it's nearly there... just need to sort out why the gear slips. I can't seem to get the adjustment of the derailleur to make any difference. Sorry for hijacking your diary with bike chat... but my point is once gambling is gone it brings so many other experiences to life. It makes this enjoyable. I just love the feeling of not needing to check my phone or lie to my wife.

Hello Change thanks again for dropping a message. ha no problem at all i prefer a bit of general chit chat to just the same gambling discussion. Whats your plans once you have fixed it up you keeping or selling it?. I only ask as i was talking to a friend at work who buys and fixes up whatever he can get his hands on to sell on ebay, says he makes a tidy little profit aswell it sounds like a good idea to me to keep my mind occupied. My cheque has just cleared in my account to today is gona be a bit tester. ive already arranged to go out for a few pints with a mate whos going through some hard times atm so its gona feel nice to actually spend some of my money on other people instead of this selfish addiction.

Hope everyone else is well, Bob

Today has been a major struggle for me, as soon as i am alone i get an overwhelming urge to gamble. My own mind seems to be working against me and tells me one bet wont hurt and i can control it (even thought i know i cant and that i can never gamble responsibly). Luckily so far i have managed to ignore the urges and have not gambled.

On a positive note my girlfriend needed a filling on one of her teeth as she has bad tooth ache all last night but couldnt afford it until she gets paid on the15th of next month. I was able for the first time to help her out and give her £50 to get it sorted tomorow, it feels great to help out for once instead of always being penniless asking to borrow. I have to try to remeber this feeling and use it in my favour next time im tempted

Off to bed now so hopefully il feel less overwhelmed tomorow, Best of luck to everyone im going to start leaving comments on more peoples diarys tomorow 🙂

Well done fighting through today...It's getting through these hard days that makes us stronger!

We cannot win because we cannot stop & for us, it's only the 1st bet we have to avoid!

Not sure what measures you have in place to beat it this time but it may be worth letting your GF in on how much of a struggle it is trying to beat this & see if she is prepared to help? Getting your Time-Money-Location triangle really broken will remove the temptation come pay day!

Stay strong & keep doing it - ODAAT

Really well done on passing that big test! Don't go back to the feelings of worry and stress associated with gambling. Just look to the future and to existing like everyone else who doesn't need to gamble.

Well done again!

I'm thinking of keeping it as my other bike is in worse condition. It's always good to have a bike as i find it relaxing to cycle around for a bit.

Hello change sorry for the late reply.

Its been a busy few days with good and bad. I have unfortunately gambled and lost around 300 on thursday. I was paid Friday and wasnt tempted to try and get it back as i know it will all just be further loss. I am currently preparing to deploy so thats keeping me busy aswell and spending my weekend with the GF. So its the start of day 3 for me now.

ODAAT thanks for commenting i have tried giving my finances over in the past but it didnt work out as when i deploy on ships, i dont always have a way of contacti g people if i need more money. I have however installed gamblock and have self excluded myself from all my local bookies on friday.
