Hi

I have a counselling in place now and all the gambling blocks which is great. So I'm now in the dealing with the consequences of your actions phase and im scared.

I have just under 30k of gambling debt and I have no idea now to get rid of it without effecting my mortgage ( product tranfer ) next year. I have a good income but it's got the stage im paying off the minimum on some accounts just to keep going

Has anyone else been in this much debt and what did you do about it ?

Hi,

So, I was the gambler and I took out loans and credit cards in my husband’s name without him knowing. The debt came to £60k.
What is it you want to do with mortgage?? My husband had no choice but to do a debt management plan through StepChange. The mortgage is just in his name only. All we did was go for another fixed term for 5 years with the same lender. They didn’t require a credit check or anything so the mortgage wasn’t affected.
If you’re just paying the minimum amount on the debt, then it’s never going to come down? But if you also don’t want the debt to get any bigger, then you need to triple lock those doors with every block in place and grab hold of any help you can get.

I gambled for 5 years - I’m now just over 18 months GF.

Best of luck,

Claire x
