Hi there. I have recently faced up to the fact I have a problem. I have installed blocking software on my computer, got rid of my mobile phone but am still managing to gamble.
My question is, is there a bank account out there that would prevent me from going on gambling websites. If not is there a bank account that would stop me from carrying out online transactions?
Thanks
Hello Jemmi,
Welcome to the forum and well done for recognising the gambling problem, and for taking steps to protect yourself, like installing the blocking software. You might also self-exclude from the gambling websites.
You’ve asked about bank accounts; some of our users have mentioned using a basic bank account that provides them with a cash card (Rather than a debit card). Generally, cash cards only allow you to withdraw cash from an ATM, and debit cards can also allow you to pay for goods and services in shops, and on the phone and online, but it is best to check the details with the bank that offers a particular account, to clarify what you can and cannot do with a particular account and card.
The Money Advice Service has a web page about basic bank accounts:

As you’ve said that you’ve found ways around blocks in order to gamble, it might be helpful for you to increase the motivational support that you’re using for your recovery. You can talk with a GamCare adviser on 0808 8020 133 to find out more about support that is available for you. Some forum users also find it helpful to keep a Recovery diary on the forum, for some peer support.
