Hello my name is Alain, on day 5 without a bet, been having some really bad cravings but have decided to give this a real try for the sake of myslef and family, i have been gambling for the best part of 20 years, my main betting is on horse racing, football, virtual, roulette and the evil machines in the bookies that are FOBT, i have tried to stop so many times thinking i can just stay of the FOBT's and keep having a bet on the football and horses and control it, every single time i have failed, always end up in the bookies with your sick mind saying i will just stick a wee tenner in the machine and that will give me money to bet on the football and horses all weekend, before you know it your back at the cash machine and down a few hundred quid and then the chasing starts and we all know were that leads, i have now realised that the only way to quit this addiction is to stop completely, i cant live this way anymore getting paid and then skint a few days later and having to struggle all month, why do we put ourselves through this pain, i feel now that i really want to stop as before even when i was in GA i dont think i was ready, i took the steps yesterday of self excluding myself from every bookmaker near my work and were i live and excluded my self from all the gambling websites for 5 years, this it last chance for me to turn things around, i have also decided that i am going to go back to GA, i know its going to be a long hard fight but i am willing to go through this to come out a better person. Thanks for listening.

Hi and welcome to the forum

Im glad you have joined us. Please ring gamcare as many times as you like especially if you are feeling low.

You have made a great step self excluding and that has to be solid and everywhere that you would think of possibly going. Twinges are natural but you will have no outlet for them while you build a healthy mind. Eventually those twinges will die away because you will see gambling for exactly what it is and wont see the point in wasting any more money or your valuable time

I hope you will also have the courage to chat with the doctor for a health check and you can explain what you have been doing and how it has upset your life

There are stages you will go through and you will learn about how complex the addiction can actually be.

We all recommend that you have discussions with your family as they can be a great support in managing your finances and motivating you

We have been there so know exactly what you mean. We know how it grabs people and it one of the most dangerous addictions out there. With the right measures it can be beaten and in time you will wonder why you ever did it.There are many success stories here to inspire others.

Being gamble free is a wonderful feeling.

Best wishes from everyone on the forum
