I'm finding the hardest part of stopping my gambling is the fact I have no access to credit at all and nowhere else to turn. I'm using gambling as a crutch to make small amounts of money to keep me going, when I know in reality this isn't going to work and I'll be left with nothing.

It is so annoying because I can't even lend 200 pound since the crackdown on payday loans. I have no idea what their criteria now is, as although my credit file does hold one ccj...which will drop off later this year, the rest isn't that bad

Is it allowed to ask if anyone knows of any lenient lender?. I swear it isn't to be used for gambling, but to get me out of this hole that my gambling caused in the first place!!

I know it isn't a lot of money and I can get back on my feet by the end of April, but I fear I won't make it that far!!

Hi jw1976. Well, as you have said, gambling to try and make money is only likely to mean you lose more. Borrowing money when you're already in financial trouble may also make things worse, especially if you were considering high interest lending like payday loans. If you're in financial trouble, have you sought advice from Citizens Advice, National Debtline or Stepchange? Even a local credit union would be a better option than a payday lender. They can also give you advice to help you budget.

Remember if you want to stop gambling but you're struggling to stop you can always call us on the helpline, on 0808 8020 133. It's free from most mobiles and we're open 8am-midnight every day.

I dont really think this subject is appropriate . Payday loans & compulsive gambling go hand in hand. I dont think we should be discussing lenient lenders & giving ideas to compulsive gamblers about where they can borrow their next stake

I agree with your logic day@atime and I suppose any replies may be picked up by someone looking for cash to gamble with. I promise and can assure u that is not the case with me. I was looking for a small amount to help me short term.

I know further borrowing does not help the long term problem but in my circumstances it really would help.

I agree that payday lenders often contribute to the problems of a gambler, but they did have their purpose too.

Thankyou also Admin for your response. I have plans in place to deal with my debt in the long term but am really struggling this month with nowhere to turn. I suppose it's the punishment of my relapse and deserved x

jw, if having no money means you are likely to be starving through lack of food. I suggest you seek out the possibility of using a food bank.

I've been in your situation in the past. When I look back to when I was penniless it makes me never want to be in that situation again. It's one of the factors that keeps me determined from gambling ever again. You too can learn from bitter experience as I have done.

Unfortunately in this CG life we reap what we sow.

I hope things improve for you sooner rather than later.

Take care.

Thankyou NT. I'm pleased u understood where I was coming from and I didn't offend.

I Have previously managed a year and a half b4 this relapse back into hell without being a problem or compulsive gambler. I had had many failed attempts previously to stop, and I always put my failure down to the state of my finances. When I eventually did manage to stop, I was in control of my finances. I had money left over to survive and I didn't owe money to family and friends.
My problem this time is I DO owe family money, and I can't and won't let them down. But by sticking to this commitment I have nothing for a month. Thankfully I don't need a food Bank mrstop but Thankyou for your advice. I do have a partner who won't see us starve. However, he WONT help me with fuel in my car to get to work. He Won't pay my childrens dinner money. And he WILL make every day I have no money an argument.
I read a post by wal1957 earlier however that made so much sense in respect of using lack of money as an excuse to justify the gambling. That's exactly wot I have been doing. I have been gambling with little bits of money and trying to make it last me. The reason I asked about finance is that in my case I would honestly use it to draw a line under this mess.
I realise it isn't going to happen however and iv resigned myself to the fact that it's going to be a long and miserable month! X

Hi jw1976

In the long run, I think it is better that you have a long and miserable month. It will help to remind you of what happens when you gamble.

Better to have one single miserable month now than a lifetime of miserable months if you continue to gamble.

Take care
