Hi All

I haven't gambled in 2 years now and recently went to see if I would be accepted for a mortgage, which I understandably wasn't accepted due to bad credit score (payday loans) within the last 6 years. Just wondering if anyone has had similar issues or if there was anybody they would recommend speaking to? Just a feel a bit stuck at the minute for the first time since stopping gambling.

I had to wat until the black marks came off my report, which was 6 years. If it’s paid payday loans you might get a way with just waiting a year as they won’t be too bothered by that. If it’s missed payments and a black mark on your credit report you will have to wait until they are gone.

there might be citizens advice which might be able to help point you in the right direction.

I hope this helps

Just to add to what Dave said above, i read before that there are brokers / mortgage advisors who specialise in cases like yours. They’d be able to advise and point you to what certain banks look for or are alarmed with so you can be guided on how to improve your credit report for your next application. As above, it usually takes years to clear off certain things from your record but at least you know it’s possible.

Hi All

Thanks for all your advice and help, as always it is greatly appreciated.

Positive news is I was successful in getting mortgage due to a brilliant advisor who specialised in cases like mine.

Was told to be open and honest with lender and they treat each case individually.

Could not be happier and very much looking forward to the future!

Thank again
