Hi everyone.
I guess joining a forum is a first step. From a very oung age have had a strong interest in sports. I'd follow soccer, tennis, golf, boxing and horse racing. The problem is I love following sport but don't know how I will if I stop gambling. I suffer from anxiety and depression and only go out to my local rural bar or two. The problem is these pubs are basically bars with a bookie! The horse racing and betting takes over. As of yesterday I said to myself I hve to stop gambling. My bank statements can explain why. I have closed all my online accounts.
I have to be reaistic - my best friends and my brother all follow sport and have a bet but I take it too far. I'm not going to change my circle of friends but how can I continue to avoid gambling when I am surrounded by sport which as we all know is betting fuelled these days.
I really don't know what to do and any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Arturogatti and welcome.
First thing you could do is tell your brother and friends about the problem gambling. Explain how it's affecting your life negatively. Hopefully they will understand and realise you need help as opposed to continuing gambling.
Gamblers Anon is a very good outlet also. Full of like minded people who have been there done that and have loads of advice and support at the ready. I'd advise getting to a meeting asap
Thanks Sam. I have told my brother and family. I also have unfollowed certain betting friends on facebook. I will go to a meeting if I bet again but for now I would love support away from a meeting. A meeting will follow if this doesn't work. Thanks again.
Hi,
I was same, my fiancГ©e has full control over my bank accounts and I closed all my online betting accounts.
I did it yesterday and that's to go onto the gamcare website and look for the self exclusion link. They self exclude you from all your local bookmakers for 12 months.
Ive also got a Councillor. I was told not go to GA as they can be very intimidating for a young person. A Councillor keeps all the information confidential aswell.
Hope this helps.
Steven
