Hiya!!

I registered with GamStop last year but I stupidly used my boyfriends gambling account recently with my bank card and I had his permission. His account has now been blocked. I was reading the T&C…. It says I could be reported to authorities, credit rating agents, bank, etc… also it says I may have to refund the winnings… I feel so horrible.

Is this true? I’m so frightened, Will I be in trouble. Please be nice 😩😩

Hi there!

Firstly - don’t panic. Let’s break down what happened, what will happen and - perhaps the best bit - what you can learn from it.

You did a great thing registering with Gamstop last year, by the way. You’ve recognised you needed to do this and took proactive practical steps. So full marks for that!

Next, you used your bank card on your boyfriend’s gaming account, albeit with his permission. The gaming company has flagged up two things: one, that your boyfriend’s gaming account has been used with someone else’s card, and, possibly, recognised that, as you’ve used Gamstop, you’re blocked anyway.

I don’t think there will be any consequences for you both but, your boyfriend should have used a card that isn’t his, and - you know this - you shouldn’t have used your card.

I suspect any money  deposited will be forfeited and the gambling company will need to report it, and you and boyfriend may be contacted to remind you of your obligations. I’m not a legal expert by any means but I can’t see you in any real trouble, but it’s certainly something you can learn from.

I would look at this as an opportunity refresh your efforts  not to gamble - it’s a world of pain. Keep up using Gamstop. Look at this as a reminder to keep going. Does your boyfriend need to rein in his gambling too? Does he need support and maybe Gamstop too?  Can you support each other with this? How can he help you swerve gambling?

Anyway try not to worry too much and look at what you can do to keep moving in a positive direction 🙂

Quick typo in my reply above: “your boyfriend shouldn’t have used a card that wasn’t his” is obviously what I meant to write. (I want to avoid confusion!)
