Hi All,

I have been gambling for about 6 years now, and i feel now that i have hit rock bottom. I have three payday loans out this month, i've lost my full wage within 3 days, i've lost friends and family member over the last couple of years. My friends and family members are all progressing in life both in their personal and career life where as i spend everyday with my face in front of a laptop when i'm not at work in a dead end job.

I wake up every morning thinking about gambling, and go to bed thinking about gambling.

I've decided it's finally time i took my life back. And writing on this forum will hopefully mean i follow through with it.

Is there any advice from those who have successfully overcome gambling?

Thanks

S

Hello S,

Well done on joining the forum.

Sounds like you want to make this a turning point. To help you to keep going in your chosen direction, you could start an online diary in our 'Recovery diaries' section, if you like. Using your diary regularly might help you to reflect on your experience, and become more aware of what helps you to take good care of your recovery, and what tends not to work out so well for you.

You've asked for advice from people who have been succeeding with their recovery; some of our diary members have been working a stable recovery for years, so reading their diaries may inspire you with ideas for your own recovey. We also have a 'Success stories' section.

Your post describes how you've experienced various kinds of losses, including family and friends as well as money. You've described how gambling has dominated your thoughts, and how you feel that gambling is holding you back from living a more satisfying life. If you'd like to talk with an adviser about this, you're welcome to call us on 0808 8020 133. The advisers can put you in touch with local free counselling appointment services if you like the idea of seeing a therapist to support you with your recovery.
