Phil I'm afraid that you can't have Cardiff being both top of the Championship and having sunny weather - one or the other I'm afraid 🙂 🙂 🙂
Loafin - you're more than welcome to join. You'll be on the next Rollcall, next weekend. Welcome aboard and don't forget to seek as much help from Gamcare as you can to get your gambling-free life started. We'll see you on Day 7 next week 😉 and post on here as often as you want if you need a steer 🙂
Unfortunately I don't care about Cardiff City as I support Liverpool (with me being from Merseyside originally) and doubly unfortunate is the fact that I live about half a mile from the ground so my front garden tends to be used as a rubbish bin on match days!
Oh dear, sorry about that Phil. Still, at least Liverpool are high-flying at the moment so a bit of consolation. A shame there's nothing you can do about the garden situation; that must be irritating to say the least.
Well it's not like it happens every day.
Fair enough Phil 🙂
To all readers:
*** If you're looking for the Weekly (Sunday) Rollcall , it's a few posts back ***
Checking in for another day gf - ! Sorry I have'nt been very present the last week I have had some personal issues to sort out which has left my very busy! great to see positivity on this thread continuing regardless! Great to see so many people on this thread clocking up the the gf days 🙂
Hey, no worries Athena. This thread is returning back to 'Positivity Central' (always underpinned by pragmatism and common sense, of course!) and, as you say, great to see lots of GF days building up all round 🙂
Thought of the day: "If we think we won't gamble today, we won't gamble today."
We can dismiss the option every day!
Goodnight all!
Like that word in Mixer's last post ' pragmatism ' . I had to look it up and it seems a pragmatic person is : down to earth - earthy - hardheaded - matter of fact - practical - realistic . They seem like excellent qualities to strive for in overcoming gambling addiction . As a compulsive gambler I guess I was living in a fantasy world of delusions with my head in the clouds .
Hi Abstainer,
Thank you for your terrific post (as always), and, yes, agreed - pragmatism; that healthy reality, is a most important attribute to have on this journey.
Incidentally, I have three favourite positive 'P' words - pragmatism, perception and precedent. It's critical how we're perceived these days, in my view, but important that the underlying substance (of our character) backs it up. As for precedents, well, they're great; if something's wrong, and it's challenged by a lone voice and made right, then a precedent has been set, making things better for everyone. For example, take the Bosman ruling in football. Bosman stood up to the football clubs, and won, free of the restrictive rules that meant the club previously owned him. Every other player has benefitted since. A precedent was set! (Although, looking at the way players hop from club to club nowadays, maybe it's gone a little too far and maybe a new precedent needs to be set ... 🙂
Other key 'weapons' in our armoury - not just for being GF, but for life itself - are consistent politeness and, above all, consistent respect. We can shrug off, and bat off, all-comers using these.
Anyway I'm meandering, so back to the point. Which is, as you say Abstainer, keeping it real!
And, reading your posts, you certainly do that! I continue to wish you all the very best.
Ode to Mixer
Arm in arm not a schism - Emboldened anew with pragmatism
No delusions or deception - Seeing sense with cool perception
Onwards upwards our ascent - Maybe it's a precedent !
That, Abstainer, is poetic platinum. Not a word wasted! 'Tis an ode to us all.
My favourite post of the year so far 🙂
That post by Abstainer made me smile. Thank you!
Thanks for that Mixer and Phil . I was in truth being selfish !
On the 6th July 1961 I saw the word schism and thought one day I'm going to use that . I can now cross it off my bucket list .
Delighted to see your bucket list get another 'tick' Abstainer - well worth 56 years patiently anticipating the right moment. Voilet Fane surely got it right when she said : "Good things come to those who wait".
(Where did you originally see the word, by the way!)
Apropos, I've been trying to use the word 'serendipity' for a while now ("happy coincidence"). I'll find a way sooner or later 🙂
Affected by gambling?
