*** HERE'S A THOUGHT ***

It can be tough to keep on the Gambling Free path. Sometimes, words don't move you. Sometimes, what a loved one or friend says doesn't move you. But maybe, on those occasions where doubt and weakness is trying to surface, maybe the power of music might move you.

Here's a track that reminds you of how things have been, for too long. Let the lyrics move you. Warn you. And help guide you to a better life.

At moments of weakness - music is a marvellous bastion of strength.

(Selected lyrics follow...)

I was left to my own devices
Many days fell away with nothing to show

And the walls kept tumbling down in the city that we love
Great clouds roll over the hills, bringing darkness from above

But if you close your eyes
Does it almost feel like nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes
Does it almost feel like you've been here before?
How am I going to be an optimist about this?
How am I going to be an optimist about this?

We were caught up and lost in all of our vices
In your pose as the dust settled around us
And the walls kept tumbling down in the city that we love
Great clouds roll over the hills, bringing darkness from above
But if you close your eyes
Does it almost feel like nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes
Does it almost feel like you've been here before?

Music has enormous power; be sure to visit Abstainer's thread, with regular tracks to help keep us all on track.

Lovely to get a mention on the Roll Call. Checking in on day 8 and here to go none stop to get to Guru. I know I can go for it and get there, first aiming to get Striver. Thank you Mixer for running this forum and doing the detailed updates. It's clear it must take a lot of your time and effort. But it's definitely worthwhile when you consider how many people you're helping. Hope you're also doing well on your mission to remain gamble free.

I really feel this is my time to do it. Enough messing around trying to quit, I'm going to prove to myself I can crack this stupid nonsensical addiction that defies all logic.

Best wishes to you all

Boxingdayfresh

Tooshie1961 - Welcome to the Challenge. As I'm fond of saying: let's see what you're made of!

Geo - congratulations for your double digits: day by day, let's get you to STRIVER status. The status that shows you mean business.

Thank you mixer. I honestly can say that gambling has me beat and I am helpless against it. So I am going to stay well away. Day 10 and the urge set in but called a member from GA and we have spoken for half an hour. Now relieved as I did not go to bookies. One day at a time. For now time for bed and ready for work later.

Good, Geo but you need to ban yourself from the bookies immediately. There's a number you can phone, if you search the forums you will find it. You must do this. Willpower will only get you so far; trust me, and you know this all too well.

Thank you guys,

I am going to do the self exclusion today, I am serious about this thing before I have not even considered it. But now this thing has me beat and I see that the only way move on with my life is to seek all the help available in kicking this habit. Will power alone has not helped as I had not gambled for almost a year but just in september when for no real reason I gave into the urge I lost so much as lost money saved up to start my future away from family home.

Sorry for the rambling but it helps clears my mind.

Day 11 check in GF free. Currently on the phone to self exclusion people but I keep being disconnected as there is no operator to take my call.

Ineffable - welcome to the Challenge and making a great start with 12 days under your belt. Let's see you, day by day, get to STRIVER level; that's 30 days and proves you can deal with a monthly payday. Remember, you DON'T have to P**s it up the wall this month. You can enjoy the month, enjoy the money, and not have to give it away!

Christer1 - great to see you hitting the big 5-0. I've posted on your thread.

Geo - the phone might be engaged but that's not going to stop you. Keep trying mate!!!!
