Hi All,
Take an elephant & remove it from the jungle. Take it to a circus & no doubt a trainer can teach it to do all sorts of tricks. Stand on one's chest with one hoof without crushing you, give rides to folk amongst the cheers of the crowd. Even stand upright on its back legs.
Take the gambling industry, then take a man or woman who works hard every day to provide for their family, have ambitions, & wants to do better for their dependants. Then introduce them to slots, casinos, or live sport and convince them that there's a short cut. Make it sound like it's the easiest opportunity in the world to make money, gambling or predicting what's going to happen in the next minute or so. Before you know it you've created a wonderful circus performer.
It's one thing to take an animal out of its natural habitat, but trying to release it & reintegrate it back into the wild is a mammoth task.Â
Best Wishes

Good metaphor, and after changing a few words, this could go for psychological aspects of long term drug addiction tooÂ
