After joining the forum 10 days ago I have been gamble free for 10 days, Starting my recovery through face to face counselling next week.

I know I don’t want to go back to gambling but the urges are REAL, painful, hard, frustrating, worrying….

I feel like my body feels like it has lost something, it’s never felt so shaky and trembly - why?? Why am I feeling like this?? Is it fear? Is it withdrawal? Is it because I haven’t got the distraction and predictable feelings of gambling? Is it the unknown? Panic?

I didn’t think removing this addiction would bring me physical pain awell as mental pain and I keep telling myself to push on through things will get better….. but it is so soooo hard some days.

I need your words today guys, I need your support.

take care everyone 😔

Hello @Mya

Thank you for sharing with us your reflections and how things have been for you since starting your recovery journey.

From what you share and reflect on, it seems that you are experiencing what could potentially be ‘withdrawal symptoms’ as you have described in your post. After experiencing a constant gambling cycle, it can be difficult when you go straight from that to no gambling overnight. However, you seem to be staying strong and committed to your recovery! It might be a good idea to write down the things your are feeling and experiencing during this time - this can help you put your thoughts and experiences into one space and writing can often help alleviate some of the stress and anxiety you may feel about the situation. It looks like you are due to start your face-to-face counselling this week, so it would be good to take these reflections to your practitioner and explore these together too.

You describe physical pains and mental pain – I am wondering what this looks like and if you have spoken to your GP about this? It might be beneficial to speak with your GP and do a wellness check-in with them for this too.

We are here to support you along the way and you can always contact us through to our helpline to speak to one of our advisers for debrief on the situation - space to go through this together with someone. Our helpline is open 24/7 and you can contact us via call on 0808 8020 133 or go through our website and chat to someone.

Best wishes,

Brielle
