Hi everyone,

I am finding it hard to control my gambling now that gamban is no longer working for me. Before I worked a way around gamban I stopped for 7 months and it was amazing. Unfortunately that changed 2 months ago when I found a way of deactivating.

I am proud of myself for actually trying to stop again with real actions not just words. Using gamcare is good but doesn't work on all. Gamstop & bank blocks worked well for a short time but not working for me now. Last week I scratched the CVV on all credit cards which stops me spending them. However I still need more help banking wise for my normal current account.

I would appreciate some advice if anyone knows a bank account that you cannot transfer to another bank account or pay for things online. Something like that I think would help me massively or anything at all that you found was a game changer? (I don't have someone to look after my finances).

Thanks all & merry Christmas x

You used to play in different casinos? Contacting online casinos directly and asking to block yourself forever is effective. Of course you may find another one, but no chance to get in your current places then.

@mariaklm I actually have asked near enough every single one to block me. All apart from 2/3 listened. They are non UK licenced and they dont care. Plus there's always new ones.

Thanks for your response I really appreciate it ?

Blocking Neteller and Skrill accounts or other online wallets u used is also an option. But when you used your cards directly, it's a bit hard. But hopefully somebody has got some tips!

Hang in there! ♥️

@absentee it does work for my credit cards. I can't do it for debit card as I genuinely need it unfortunately.

Thanks for your response

@nlynch91148 found a way to uninstall. I'm an idiot I know. And for obvious reasons won't go into detail on here as to how. Wish I never found out how to. Would have had such a different life now. Managed to save and its all gone down the drain back to square one.

Hi,

Sign up for an NS&I direct saver account and it works very well. Once your money is in the NS&I direct saver account it can be withdrawn anytime but won't arrive to your current account until the next business day, this stops acting on impulsive decisions without thinking first and causes a delay. You can pay money into your NS&I account instantly anytime on their website with a debit card or by bank transfer. The only way to access the money is by transferring it back to your bank account.

If you also sign up for an online only bank account (Starling or Monzo etc) it stops over the counter branch withdrawals. Then destroy the bank debit card but have it linked to Google pay so you can pay for everything with your phone but can't make cash withdrawals. Also activate the ban gambling transactions option with the bank as well, It will stop gambling deposits.

Sign up for GamStop and self exclude from casinos yourself. Remember each casino is part of a group of casinos owned by a large casino operator. For example 8*8 casino is owned by 8*8 holdings.. 8*8 holdings own 25 casinos all which have different names. So by excluding on 8*8 casino you are excluding from all 25 casinos owned by 8*8 holdings. This is the same for many casinos, do a web search for a different casino if you'd like to confirm. The casino owner / operator is listed at the bottom of the casinos homepage.

If you're excluded and you sign up and play again on an excluded website they will probably allow you but the problem will arise if you win and try to collect. They will suddenly realise when they check / validate the withdrawal that you are self excluded. They then cancel your winnings and return your original deposits, nothing more. Would be bad if you thought you'd won many thousands or even a progressive! If you lose nothing will be detected and they'll keep your deposits.

Destroy the bank card so you can't send them a picture of it to verify. Or destroy your ID so you can't send them that as part of their verification process.

I haven't been able gamble online for many years as a result of the above thankfully. Online is one of the easiest avenues of gambling to block.

You can sign up for an online casino with your personal details and self exclude immediately without depositing or playing. The self exclusion is still valid.

I'll stop going on now and wish you all the best.

You sound like you intend to deal with this alone. I strongly urge you not to do that. We need others when we can not manage it alone and there is no shame in asking for help. As you said you can run up a hundred blocks just to go around them all and start it all over again. The trick is to get some good advice from a counsellor here who can get you to see a shrink. Cbt or cognitive behavioural therapy gives you good working tools to manage yourself better. I recommend that.  When it comes to abstaining you will need about 5 weeks for your brain to balance the chemicals imbalance of dopamine and seretonin and bring you back to some kind of normal feeling again.

We can not do this alone it needs some outside intervention as when we feel worst we dont work things out very well in our mind. And it is not to be trusted atm as it is leading you to play more.

So start by calling the hotline here. You can do it.

I wish you well!

C

Hi I recently decided to knock my problem on the head, as of today I’m one day without gambling couldn’t sleep at all and the sleep I did get I was dreaming of the online casinos. So far even tho I’m onto day two the temptations have been adverts reminding me of the casinos. If anyone has any tips on this or even ways to stop them it would be much appreciated thanks.

Hi

Carrying as little money as possible was going to help me in my recovery.

Some might think that money is an emotional trigger, not for me money was just the fuel I used to escape in my fears.

I could not trust my self with money.

So in time once I trusted my self with money I got comfortable carrying small amounts of money.

Money was the reward I recieved for doing work.

When I worked hard my money and then gave it away to gambling establishments I was in effect working for nothing.

Wasting money and time was very nhealthy for me.

I use to think that gambling was the most exciting thing in my life.

I went to gambling to escape my feelings and emotions.

Being a healthy person is about not reacting in such unhealthy ways to people life and situations.

Being a healthy person is about interacting in healthy ways to people life and situations.

I use to say often people stressed me out.

I was reacting in such unhealthy ways hurting my self and hurting others.

Money was never going to heal the hurt inner child in me.

Money was never going to make me a happy person.

Money just gives me more choices in my life.

Love and peace to every one
