well tomorrow is a day I've been dreading if im honest, got my first appointment with gambling Councillor and I really don't no what to expect?? I really want this to help me overcome my addiction and hopefully between this and the help from my doctor I can make the change but really building this up to a point where I'm genuinely nervous to talk about it. I haven't gambled for nearly 2 weeks and want to continue this ......Anyone who has been before, I would appreciate to here your experience from these sessions. Thanks guys
Hi,
I am through 11 out of 12 counselling sessions run by Gamcare.
The first one will be a reasonable amount of form filling and finding out what you gambled on and how.
Personally I was mortified and broke down in tears which in reality was my guilt and stupidity coming to the fore.
Has the sessions helped. Yes. They have indicated to me why I started, in reality when I started. So I can now focus on stopping. My counsellor has listened to me get angry, frustrated and has watched me start to come out the other end as a better person.
Give it a go - you have nothing to lose.
Best wishes
Hi Murray
I'm currently on session 3 of my sessions and they have really helped. If you're anything like me you will not want to go each time it rolls around, but after you will feel so much better for doing it.
Gambling is one of my many outlets for my depression/anxiety and the counselling explores everything, it doesn't just ignore everything else going on.
You may feel worse to begin with, but it does get better 🙂 x
