Day 74,

Keeping my focus. Starting to enter unchartered territory as this is now the longest I have ever gone without gambling since the start of this horrible addiction.

Best wishes to all.

Dave

Day 79,

One more day until I reach my next target. I have found that setting these small next targets has really helped to keep my focus. The gambling free days are starting to stack up now and life is good.:)

Best wishes to all.

Just read that article you posted on page one of your diary. Very similar to me. I started doing 50p bets on horses and football at 14. About 7 years ago I placed my highest bet ever of £1500 on a horse. My average stake increased from £2 to £200 over a 20 year period. I have lost £600,000 of my own money and I am £190,000 in debt at present.

You would think there would have been a wake-up call and a reality check many years ago, But it was only 5 and a half years ago I admitted I had a problem and only in the last 4 months do I feel completely recovered. So hard to give up something you love and something which dominates your life so much that nothing else and no-one else matters. I could be living in a £300,000 house with the mortgage paid off if I hadnt gambled all my money. I could have had some fabulous holiday experiences. I have had some of that and also some fabulous gambling and non-gambling memories. Sometimes I think I have failed at life. Sometimes I think I didnt set out to suceed at gambling so if I didnt want to suceed I havent failed. But the gambling became just an escape from reality. I escaped stress and real life. Gambling wasnt the problem, it was a way of dealing with the problem. I have failed with life decisions and choices and no guarantee I will get them right from now on but I've finished with using gambling as an escape.

Well done on 79 days and long may it continue and thanks for posting that article.

Day 82,

All good this end. I'm taking one day at a time. Feeling positive. I really do appreciate my wife taking the financial worries away by paying off my gambling debts. It really was a huge weight off my shoulders and meant that I was able to get a decent nights sleep once again and not wake up with my debts being the first thing I thought of in the morning and the last thing at night. I am fully aware that not everybody has this luxury. I am determined to make it up to her and prove that I can be a great husband.

Best wishes to all.

Dave
