Hi Ya Duncs,

Steady as ever. Just a flyer to say hello and was sweet to read about your Valentine's Day gift. I know what you mean about honesty vs. alterior motives. A gamble free life gives us back so much more than just extra cash. You are a good man Mr. Mcquilken. Enjoy your weekend friend! --joan

evening diary

well yesterday came and went i learnt again.

firstly i spent a pound a pound more on my roasting beef and as the saying goes you get what you pay for proved to be oh so true.

secondly one of the junior cooks felt my wrath after one too many times saying what's the point???

my point is everything has a point, at work for example we roast all our Sunday joints on a trivet of root veg, why?? to use as a base for the gravy, the young man was trying to bypass this process and bin them why???

because it would make work, he would have to pass the gravy through a seive twice!!

which he did lol!!!

then he was banging on telling the potwash What's the point , he is 26 and has no respect, he should have made it by now!!

my point was blunt, you get out what you put in!!!

today he was looking rather surly when i popped in with some supplies.

today has been a day off for both Sarah and myself a rare treat we enjoyed a trip to the butcher grabbed some bargins and topped the freezer up with some proper treats, in answer to that question.

That's the point!!!

we enjoyed lunch and walked the hounds for miles and miles. came home to enjoy a cornish hen and some baked potatoes, delicious.

again that's the point.

i understand today from life i can take from what i put in, work hard, play hard, money in the bank and most of all a point to it all through my own self respect.

i value it all so highly.

i won't be destructing it today through a punt. the odds are not tempting at any price.

tomorrow young hovis goes for the snip!! part of the deal when we rescued him, so tonight shall be spent spoiling him. then back to work for dinner service.

So today i reflect on another good week passed and a busy one to look forward to.

great to top up my resolve here, a couple of first year milestones approaching, a thing i look forward to celebrating with the forum.

It can be done. there is a way.

just for today

No Bet.

Another inspiring post Duncan.

I only hope that your words get through to so many of the new members/gamblers looking for some rescuing on here.

You are the living proof of what can be achieved by not only abstaining from the gambling but from having zest and vitality in the things you choose to do in life. I'm over 3 months without a bet but you constantly inspire me in that whatever I do I should do it right and with an enthusiasm that I haven't felt in years due to my gambling addiction. It gives me a stronger focus on whatever I'm doing but without taking any of the fun or enjoyment away and for those words I thank you. Your positivity comes across in waves.

Hope your wife is feeling much better after being ill last week. Have a great week.

evening diary

well our hovis had his op this morning and looks great fashioning his lampshade. bless he seems a little lost, i will sleep on the floor tonight in the trusty sleeping bag and give him all the love he needs, i do understand the reason behind the rescue place putting this as a stipulation and will ensure he gets a decent recovery.recovery with the right support and help can be enjoyable, there is plenty of proof here.

we got the extra pain relief available for him, amazingly the vet said most folk don't folk out the extra cash.

me i could not think of a better way to spend some hard earnt.

after all the dogs have been a big part of my recovery.

time to give back.

no bet today. a choice that came easy.

Hello Duncs,

Your a true inspiration to us newly committed gamblers, to a bet free life. I like reading your posts, you have alot of wisdom and confidence. I hope I can make that year mark also. I really like the stepping forward not back line, that's a great way to look at this addiction, the further you get away from it the better. I wish you the best in your recovery.

Sincerely,

Chicagoguy

evening diary

thanks for all your support folks, it gives me so much heart

had a day off today, a day spent looking after the mac clan.

Sarah got up at lunchtime lol.

me i cleaned up put on a pot of braised beef and looked after the little fella, our wonderful little whippet hovis, he has today shown great signs of recovery. even whilst still fashioning his flowerpot collar has been back to sticking his nose in everywhere he can and can't get it lol, he has got stuck a few times and bless blue our other whippet is petrified of the collar!!lol he has spent the day staying one step ahead of hovis.

we enjoyed our supper, it got six hrs braising and topped

with some hearty dumplings delicious.

we enjoyed the darts tonight and now hovis and i are sharing the floor for the night.

back for a check at the vets tomorrow for him and off to work for me, a busy weekends graft ahead.

got my review with the boss tomorrow, looking forward

to it greatly .

i did make a great choice today to make this all possible the same one i made yesterday.

to better my tomorrow and that of those around me.

No Bet today.
