I was here maybe a year ago with a diary, my posts faded out which was a result of gambling again...

I've been gambling on and off since then, with the last month or so being absolute hell. I don't even want to work out how much money I've lost.

This is enough or I'm going to lose everything. I have a few measures in place now including gambling software (K9) which doesn't actually seem to be working right now so i'm going to have to figure out what's going on there.

I want to log onto these forums on 16th August 2019 and report I've been gamble free for a year.

Hi Laura

My story is similar to yours, when I stop posting it’s when I start getting temptations, I have accepted that the money is gone, don’t chase and stop before I lose everything.

Take care.

Thanks so much Shaun.

I'm in so much debt and some part of my brain thinks I just need that big win and I can clear it but that isn't the case, gambling only messes me up more and the money i "win" is never truly mine!

Hi Laura,

Welcome back to the site.

If your debt is dragging you down that why not get in touch with someone like stepchange. They can help with making your debt more manageable which means you can focus on dealing with the gambling issues rather than just focusing on money constantly. This will affect your credit rating but if you are anything like me, then it will have taken a hit with all the debt you have anyway.

Hi Laura

We all get those thoughts of ‘one big win’ but it rarely materialises and even if it does, us compulsive gamblers will give it back and then some.

Take care.

Shaun

Day 1 GF! Feeling good, I'm going to sign up to Gamstop right now and then keep busy with the family for the rest of the day.

Day 2

Gamstop are unable to find my details when I enter my info :/ I am going to do a live chat with them to try and sort this out. Already physically self-excluded from all my favourite sites but still need to get this in place because there are so many new casinos cropping up all the time.

Keeping busy today and definitely not by gambling.

It's day 3 and I'm officially signed up to Gamstop.

I am turning 30 in November and I want gambling to be something firmly left in my 20s. I want it to be just a depressing chapter in my story, I will NOT let it become my life.

Feeling strong, onwards and upwards.

Good work Laura, it’s the blocks which have helped me in the past. Putting up barriers and will power will get you through. At 30, you are still young, all of your life to look forward to - gamble free!

I hope so Shaun! I'm still dwelling about the money I've lost and what I could have done with it, but thinking about that won't do any good. Here's to the future...

Day 4 and feeling happier already

Good thinking Laura, the money is gone, it’s not coming back. Look on the money lost as a bad experience, one which you won’t do ever again.

Day 5 and no thoughts of gambling today.

I've started planning my days, writing out tasks in my diary of what needs to be done. Pretty mundane errands and chores but I find this is helping to keep me focussed.

hi Laura, as hard as it is you have to forget the money , the money is gone, the money i spent I view as an expensive lesson in why im not wired up in a way that i can gamble in moderation without causing myself damage.

“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift, which is why we call it the present.” ...

youve signed up to gamstop which is massive, especially if like me your gambling was mainly done indoors online on your phone/tablet etc. To gamble you need time/money and opportunity, take one of these away and you cant gamble simple as that, Gamstop has removed a large part of the opportunity so its a massive step in the right direction.

keep going and watch those GF days rack up

Thanks so much for the support!

Day 7 and still going strong. I did have some urges today after seeing a casino advert on Facebook (I thought these might stop after Gamstop?) 🙁 For a few seconds I thought....£50 won't hurt right? But I quickly snapped back to reality. I probably won't have been able to sign up to the site anyway but I didn't dare to find out.
