Today I have taken the steps to start my gambling free journey. I have signed up to GAMSTOP and gamban for 5 years and never plan to remove them.

My gambling started around 5 years ago and the worst thing for me is I actually when in the gambling industry, I would leave but the pay is good. The worst part is I work in responsible gambling so I should know better.

My urges started when it came to slots, I used to think spinning at 20p is fine and it's not a lot not thinking it soon builds up. Things would be going good and I could get a decent win and then lose it all and then chase to regain what I originally put in which has now caused me to be in my overdraft, it's not masses and I will be out of it next month but I have used GAMSTOP before but only ever for 6 months and start to think oh I'll be fine after the 6 months.

I get temptations at work even though I'm in the responsible gambling sector, I have toyed with leaving but the pay is so good and for what I do I won't be able to find a similar job that pays the same.

So now I am taking all other steps I can do which is GAMSTOP and gamban and try get a few hobbies under my belt.

Another issue I have is I suffer with ADHD and I was using gambling as my hyper focus which I know isn't great but I couldn't stop.

I finally had enough of it all, I want to put my money to better use whether that is saving or I am due to be married in 2026 so to use it there.

This is the first time I've ever posted this and been so open so I appreciate everyone who reads this and will keep this updated

Good morning

I wish you all possible and positive strength going forward

What your post makes me feel is that you really need to focus your money into productive avenues

I always found that if money is just floating about from whatever source then it got wasted literally

Whether it was horses casino or risky investment crypto etc the hard earned readies evaporated

The wedding and all the that goes along with it is great focus and will be a big boost

In relation to savings do loads of research and future purpose planning and then select 2 long term locked in trusts with no access till fruition

Along with helping others exercise and breathing techniques I believe you are set up

 Regards MH

Forget about the money and focus on self improvement and hopefully away from your current occupation.

There is no way I would feel comfortable making myself a victim of gambling and working for the industry to potentially feed my addiction.

Everyone's position is different and you have to do what you got to do. I gave up a job in Germany because I couldn't get the physical GA meetings I really needed. That Wass higher pay than what i do now but no I am living my life, I have a car and flat and a family now which never would of happened if I stayed in my old position in another country.

My recovery abstaining from gambling has been 3 years nearly and I am so thankful for this site and the help from others.

If in doubt keep seeking help and being barriers and being aware of the dangers
