If you are going to walk round the world then you must take that very first step.

One day of not gambling proves very little but it is that same very first step.

As I sit writing this I am feeling sad and fragile. However I am well aware that if I do nothing about this curse now then the rest of my life will be blighted.

As I have no opportunity to play FOBT's during the week, then it will be weekends that will be the true challenge.

Good luck Bob - I too was terribly drawn in by FOBTs so I know how you are feeling. It can be done though mate and a diary and this forum is a great place to start.

I wish you all the very best - just remember that as long as you are taking small steps in the right direction.......always going forward.........then you will always reach your destination.

Take care,

Mr Brightside

Thanks for such a lovely supportive message Mr Brightside. I have tried to quit in the past but always on my own. Hopefully using a site like this and getting help and support from fellow problem gamblers will be better.

Always here to support Bob.

I know from your other post that you've tried to take steps to put barriers up that may help you stop, but what other foundations have you put in place that could really set you up for success? I've done the self exclusion piece as well - if you read my diary it wasn't a pleasant experience, but no pain no gain and it's certainly been significant in my short journey so far.

Good luck fella - keep reading diaries, decide your own future and then draw the map on how to get there. We're all different and will need to do different things to help us stop, but you've taken that first step - congratulations!

Hello again Mr Brightside,

With regards to other steps I have taken to limit my gambling activities. the following are ongoing. A large percentage of my wages go directly into my partners bank account. The rest is my pocket money or should I say my gambling money ( hopefully not for much longer.) I have self excluded from my most local shop with a view to doing the same with other local shops.

I am sure this site and the individuals on it can give me more great advice and ideas.

Take care,

Bob.

Well done fella - sounds like we're both on a similar road!

Hey there,

Day one was yesterday! today, day two. This is not truly reflective progress as I rarely have the oppotunity to gamble midweek.

I was thinking of putting all my most recent depressing experiences in writing. Hopefully if I then look at this often it will discourage me from going through it all again.

That's superb Bob - well done mate. The forum is all about putting things down that you wouldn't normally share but still have anonymity to protect you. I can't believe some of the things I've felt comfortable sharing in my diary.

Keep your pocket money in your pocket fella - it's not gambling money!!

Good luck for day 3!

Mr Brightside

Four days gambling free. I can win this battle.

A new strategy I have developed is as follows.

I have fallen out on a personal basis with two of the UK's leading bookmakers. By that I mean I have contaced them with some questions I wanted addressed.

Mr L sent an utterly glib and patronising response which bypassed the questions I actually put to them. Mr W H have not responded within three days, not even an automated response.

I now hate these f*****rs so so much that I can not see me giving them any more of my hard earned.
