So current situation I am 72  days GF. I am still trying to sort my gambling debt and my financial status doesn't seem to be improving because things keep breaking like my car etc.

I am forgetting things I thought I'd streamlined all my bills to come out the same day and I haven't done so stunned with charges again..  I am drained, I am exhausted with talking about how I'm feeling and talking about financial issues and I'm sick of my irrational brain when I am trying to sleep ? pffft

I haven't bright a Christmas present I'm not even wanting to celebrate Christmas since gambling I hate spending any money even on essential items like food and toiletries so trying to get my head around that anyway long story short I tried everything I could last night to online gamble luckily I had the bans in place or I would have done. Wish these adverts would just dissappear especially at night they get in my head

Hope all is okay sorry for the dreary post

Dear @takenafirststep,

I'm sorry to read that things are such a challenge at the moment. I encourage you to access some extra support by calling the helpline (0808 8020 133) or netline.

Well done for putting the online bans in place to protect yourself. It's great to hear that they worked for you when you were having strong urges to gamble. I hope you can feel proud that you took that step.

I know that it can be difficult regaining a normal relationship with money once you've stopped gambling. It's good that you recognise this as that's part of the process of making a change. Perhaps it's something you can discuss with one of our advisers, or maybe other forum members have some advice they can share for this.

There are debt charities who can help you work out a way to manage things. Some of these are listed here:

www.gamcare.org.uk/self-help/finance-and-debt-management/

along with some suggestions about recovering from debt.

Please don't feel you need to apologise for your post. This forum is for people to share their experiences, good and bad, and that benefits everyone who uses it.

I hope that things feel better for you soon.

All the best,

Elizabeth

Hi TAFS.

A recovery is about owning your life again as things fall into place. Dont be a slave to christmas feelings

I dont like the way christmas puts pressure on people but you dont have to be a slave to that. I deal with christmas in my own way now...I enjoy some christmas music but I dont feel obliged to give presents or receive them if you understand what Im getting at.

Buy the small things you need like food an toiletries. A fear of what may be considered mundane is not healthy but you will gradually recover. Enjoy good food and nice toiletries. You are already a winner if you can afford anything....focus on what you have going for you

You can get financial advice and your debt can be rescheduled or even written off if too much. You must not worry yourself ill about debt. Yes Cars break down sometimes...unfortunately this is life...you have to face life without the drug of gambling confusing you

Now to the main point. You can NOT tell me that gambling is a top up scheme with any reliability even worth considering. It was never the answer to how you are feeling or your finances.

Your life will be better gamble free. You know what gambling has done to you.

Gambling is a mugs game...a tax on hope...a tax on the poor...a drug addiction...I know it hooks people fast because that is what its designed to do.

You dont need it in your life.

Best wishes
