I feel confident I will get to 50 days. I did try a counselling session once before in my home town and I was not impressed. I am sure GamCare online counselling will be better though.

Im using the counselling session as a little reminder that I need to stop gambling as I may get complacent around that time.

Day 22

Spending all my money at the beginning of the month may not have been the best plan. I may have over did it a bit. A few unexpected bills have left me low on funds.

Received a letter stating another CC account has been closed. Ordered a replacement card for one of my remaining accounts though.

Going to begin reading a book I bought last year "Overcoming Gambling" by Philip Mawer

I found this link in one of the other Forums on GamCare.

We are all bonding with gambling addiction to escape the reality of our other problems.

Day 25

I went in the bookies today and had a look around, I never had any money. I wanted to see if I had the urge to gamble if I looked at some form. I did not gamble, never watched any races and I did not have any urges. Still feel a little stupid going in.

Good evening, such a story well done on hitting 25 days. I also a few years back when trying to stop ended up in the bookies testing myself. I used the toilet for some reason... I never gambled that day and I remember telling the ga group at the time. They told me it was not the best idea and they were right as a few weeks later I was back to old tricks again. its down to us and our actions in beating this awful addiction and whatever works for you keep doing what you have to do but I know if I ended up back in a dirty shop It would bring back strong urges to gamble. I worry next time I go out with the lads and have a few beers I will be back on the fobts. I know this combination is deadly but we must keep fighting to stop. I want to see you on 50 days in the very near future. You will do this. Keep up the good work.

Day 26

Received some money I was not expecting this month, so I have money again. I always used to treat any extra money as if it was not real and I would go straight to the local bookmakers. Not this time.

I could have a few decent bets with the money but its not a huge amount. I am going to try keeping it in my account till payday. I will need to be strong.

Thanks D,

Well done on treading on dangerous territory with your triangle broken, the addiction hates that.

Don't ever do it with the triangle broken not broken, lol, we can never trust ourselves with gambling. You have done it now move away from even thinking about checking it out in there, clean cut is the best way :)))

I guess abstaining from gambling is easy when you have little money. Difficult today cos I know I have funds available.

Hi D,

That's why we have to keep that triangle permantly broken, recovery is not easy but it sure is worth it.

Keep strong, abstaining and maintaining,

Used most of the money to pay couple of small bills in advance. I have a little left but not enough to go gambling with so I should not get tempted.

When I have money I am always thinking about the money.

Day 28

  • No point gambling as I do not enjoy placing a bet anymore.
  • No point gambling as I will bet bigger to chase losses.
  • No point gambling as I have a long track record of losing heavily.
  • No point gambling as it is stopping me from getting out of debt.
  • No point gambling as I have nothing to show for my many years as a wage earning adult.
  • No point gambling as it stops me socialising with friends and family
  • No point gambling as it is a complete waste of my free time.

Day 30

30 days not too bad. Not looking forward to another month like this.

Seems wasting all my money in the local bookmaker passes the time quicker. Not sure why, I usually spend 95% of the month waiting till next payday. I need to think of something to pass the time, I dont mind paying bills for first couple of months though.

Only 70 days till I reach my first target.

Hit the nail in the head then D, 5% of your month engrossed in gambling,,the other 95% of the month waiting for the new month,

The addiction kept you ticking along, telling you you will win next month, and that plus worrying about getting through the month on lies, robbing Peter to pay paul,,etc, kept your mind busy. Ohh :(((

Keep thinking one day at a time, the addiction simply hates that, because it keeps your mind occupied at abstaining and maintaining and actually winning my friend.

Well done you on 30 days, keep going.

Suzanne xx
