Hiya Smiler...

Just a small contribution today to say that I know what you mean about posting etc...sometimes things just tick along and then other times you get lighbulb moments or flare ups...I think thats how it will be for people like us..

It is worth it in the end and maybe for people in recovery with children..the benefits of recovery often are more visible in them than ourselves.....By the choices we make now those children reap the positive benefits.

In my group there are 3 family members in recovery..I think thats fantastic as I truly believe addiction/compulsion is a family disease.I say this not as a blame thing but as an understanding/awareness thing.

You are doing amazing work on here in helping people whilst also coming to terms with your own family illness and as you say ....its consistency that is key and not just talking the talk,....we all have to walk the walk and your a great example of that...

take care ....one day at a time xxx

I agree with you about the need to take a back seat every now and then.

I do feel that coming back on here to offer support and share our thoughts is still a very vital thing to do in our recovery journeys.

It's all about how we use this site to meet our needs.

Enjoy your weekend,

NT

Thankyou Smiler for your post.

Happy Easter hun.

Glad to see all is well with you, nothing wrong in taking a back seat every now and again especially if you feel you are in the right place to do so.

Going on a boat is not really my cup of tea but it was for the boys so you cant say no can you,ive done enough of that in the past.

Hi Folks

Cruising along at the moment on easy street. No complacency here though as I know this addiction is waiting for me to drop my guard. I just don't obsess about "not gambling". I live my life daily and get as much as I can out of it without a thought for gambling/not gambling. If you are currently struggling please believe me just hang in there and it will get easier if you don't give in. Nothing is worth having if it is easy to obtain so please work at it until you get to where you want to be.

Take care

Cruising whilst being very aware of complacency.

Now that sounds like a good place to be!

Thanks friends

I said to my wife this morning are you having a bet on the National? She replied, Do you want me to! Strange one that but the answer is honestly NO. If my wife had a bet for me (shall we say) it is just as good as me going and gambling again. I have no desire to gamble today and what's more I am excluded from bookies for miles so quite safe from my self. If I'd have said yes I would be tricking myself! I have avoided looking for anything to do with the National as I do with any gambling. When it comes on the TV or radio I just accept it is there and don't get too hooked up either way. Middle ground is good for me.

Take care

Sounds good to me, this middle ground. I might be quite interested to know who won this horse race - it will be plastered all over the news anyway.

But only for its name and what odds it were.

Nothing else.

No "Oh, I wish that I put £100 on it".

No regrets.

Just the fact that I know that my gambling-free days are completely over and I cannot put a single £1 on anything, not even a sweepstake.

Yes...

...middle ground is good.

Still hovering around the site but haven't got the zest or vigour for the non stop postings I had. I am recognising a pattern of new people coming in droves and dwindling off when the pain relinquishes. If you are writing or reading on here for the first time give yourself a chance. Give yourself 3 months of no gambling to see if it is for you. If you want to go back it will be waiting for you.

Take care

Hiya Smiler.....

Nice to see you here and yes as you say when the pain subsides it is easy to drift away from the site....I see a few new faces on the supporters side but as you know only a few stay around ...more ono the GC side which is expectedd and hopefully some will stay longer..

In AA/Al anon they used to say.."give us 6 weeks then go back to your misery"......tough love but you get the drift there...It used to really wind me up when I heard that in meetings but kind of got used to it in the end.

Anyhow...take care too and always great to see you on this site...a real asset to recovery.
