Thankyou Chartom, Odaat and Mixer for the birthday wishes.

Morning Diary. Was talking to a friend who never speaks to his brothers and sisters ! All over some dispute where things were said which couldn't be unsaid. I thought it sad that insults expressed in the heat of the moment could be so damaging to relationships.

My music choice today is ....Agree to Disagree by Kate Perry ... Sometimes I like to trade you in for someone more like me - You tell me I was right again we get on famously - Life would be boring without you to disagree.

67 years young yesterday. I hope that you celebrated in style. Don't know why, but I've got this image in my head - Stephen the Abstainer doing a kinda Van-Dike jig alongside the Humber estuary.

Good evening Stephen and listening to today's track which I'd never heard. But a good one!

It's occured to me that as a result of continued gambling over the last 40 years of my life I've missed out. Music and football; the finer appreciations of both I've missed. Gambling has taken away the detail. I'm realising this now and belatedly starting to catch up. Never too late, I guess. But the price I've paid is .... sobering. I've been engaged a few times in my life, married twice, but what if I had given my relationships my all in the past rather than 60% (the shadow of gambling covering the other 40%).

But, I'm not going to dwell, no point. But I've understood.

We start from here and enjoy life! I sincerely hope you had a great birthday, Abstainer, and sorry I've let rip some of my latest thoughts and realisations on your wonderful thread.

Anonymous you may be, as am I, but I consider you a friend 🙂

Hi Stephen, sincere apologies for not wishing you Happy Birthday on your special day. 160 days, awesome and what a journey, unfolding day by day whilst helping so many others with your wisdom and fantastic music choices. This forum would be way duller without you and so often your kind words have picked me up when feeling down. Hope you enjoyed the George Michael film? Such a beauty voice and lyrics everyone can relate to. Happy 16t0th day S:)

Changemylife, Wentworth, Matt, Mixer and Sharon. Appreciate your support and thankyou for the birthday wishes.

As a compulsive gambler with regrets and sad memories I denied myself the wonder of just being 'alive'. I was a prisoner of my own making, negative emotions chaining me to the past and denying me liberty.

My music choice today is ...We've Gotta Get Out Of This Place by The Animals ....We gotta get out of this place - If it's the last thing we ever do - We gotta get out of this place - 'cause girl there's a better life for me and you

Cheers for the post Stephen.

I’ll hit you with a Robbie William classic “no regrets “

Life’s to short to let the past hold you back,

Keep moving forward my friend

Thankyou Wentworth, appreciate the post and like your message - " Life's too short to let the past hold you back, keep moving forward".

Thankyou LML, great to see you back on track. Don't listen to the addiction, it will tell you your weak willed and not worthy of love and respect, but deep down you know that's not true. If ever you feel you can't beat the addiction take a few deep breaths and remind yourself that anything is possible. My song choice today is .... Anything's Possible by Lea Michele ...

Hello Diary. I have my 11th counselling session this afternoon. Tonight going ballroom dancing which I have neglected for some time, a quite laid back venue , we have a class from 8-9 than it's just dancing, chatting and making merry until 11ish.

Thankyou Sharon, wish you a happy weekend too. I just went for a walk and got blown all over the place so think i'll settle down for a lazy night in.

When we make a decision to stop gambling we have to be prepared to say no to the addiction. It will most likely come knocking at our door but we must ignore it and stay true to our cause. My song choice today is White Flag by Dido.....I will go down with this ship - And I won't put my hand up and surrender - Their will be no white flag above my door.
