I need to register the birth of my baby boy next week. I am then in a position to register for the Family Allowance, which is about £20 per week for a first-born child (should help buy some nappies if nothing else). My wife and I are no longer eligible for Child Tax Credits because of the most recent fiscal changes in George Osborne's Budget. Same old Tories: taking from the poor in order to give the rich tax breaks.
True. But the reason you're poor isn't because of the tax changes. 😉

Foul weather in London today - endless rain. Despite my umbrella, I arrived at work wet and grumpy. Need to check my credit report this morning to see the latest debt situation. My mother is coming to help out at home with the cooking and cleaning today, which will be a great help as my wife has her hands full with the baby at the moment.
It is 8 months until Christmas and my current Experian Credit Score is 818 (Fair). It has gone up by 3 points since last month. The amount of outstanding debt is £8,700 (down from last month's figure of £9,020).
I have just reviewed March in terms of money saved through cycling to/from work rather than taking the tube. In summary, I cycled to/from work 16 times during the month thus saving £86.40. The cumulative saving this year now stands at £210.60. I have written off April as, owing to paternity leave and awful weather, I have not cycled to work at all. I spent just over £100 servicing my bicycle last month, but that should see me through to the end of the year. I am hoping to cycle to work every day during May.
