Hi to everyone who reads this, firstly i am writing this for me and also maybe someone who thinks they don't have a problem (as i did) but it will become a problem. I have been here on and off for a few years, I lose at gambling come on here, post for a month even three, think i'm cured and go away. Then the gambling creeps back. Last night i was playing roulette on-line i was winning, i was wealthy. Tonight I am here not wealthy anymore but hating my self more than possible. I don't know the answer to my problem, i have been on the phone for 40 minutes tonight with Gamcare, they are good, the advice is right, but i haven't been able to heed it over the last three years. I can't get over the funds i worked so hard for are gone, thirty years of savings for nothing, that's why i keep going back to gambling. I can't even put the figures over the internet they are embarrasing to say the least, where do I go from here, I am devasted again. Will this forum save me, or will I keep going back. I know the answers - time location money.
Hi there my friend , Welcome back !. My names Alan and like yourself I'm a Compulsive Gambler .
I've been gambling most of my adult life , about 34 years or so and again like yourself have lost a lot of money along the way .
The Time , money location thing does work but I think the biggest thing you have to do is let go of what youv'e lost , hard as that is it's the only way forward.
In my case I've finally admited defeat to the bookies , its gone , it ain't coming back and I'm not going to chase it any more , but at the same time by admiting defeat , I've actually won for the first time in my life !.
You can put as many blocks or self exclusions in place as you want , but without a bucketfull of willpower and letting go of your losses it's always going to be difficult . You have to change your life , your mindset and start looking for other things to challenge your mind .
You say , " 30 years of saving gone ", carry on as you are and it may become 35 or 40 years down the pan !
You can do this but you can't if you don't make those changes my friend !
Best wishes with your recovery and talk to you again soon !
