Morning Captain,

Glad to see you getting a bit of control back. As far as one can be worried about an anonymous poster on the internet i was worried about you mate.

I've had a few 'cakes' myself over the last couple of days. I'm getting back on my diet as of this morning though.

Enjoy your day mate.

Thanks for the post Captain.

I'm a bit low at the moment and your supportive message was much appreciated. I would agree with you that we are both at similar stages in our recovery albeit we have different goals. You are right though we have both shown that we can do this so i'll take heart from that as you suggest.

All the best mate.

Apologies to my supporters but I have let you and myself down again.

After 3 days of not gambling I random gambled yesterday ( got to 3.00 in the day then urge got better of me, have always gambled on bank holidays in the past ).

Today I got through lunchtime fine but there was no way I could get home from work tonight without going via the bookies. First 2 bets came in, I was £275 up but then lost all I had on me.

I really want to stop this nonsense but at the moment I just cant seem to do it.

Hi captain.

I been reading ur diary. And i know what you mean about life being boring without gambling. It has been hard for me to fill my days when i finsh work early. i used to go to the bookies and play on the machines for hrs.

Is there anything else you can do with your time when your bored? Im gonna try golf next week see how is goes. you shud try something like that when you get bored, or driving range and whack some balls.

Good luck and get back on track. for yourself and all of us.

Hi Capn

It was good to catch up with you in chat the other night. You know I understand what you are trying to do with your gambling in terms of only betting on advanced sports bets and that I respect your approach as I wanted to do something similar myself. I couldn't as any winnings from sport bets went in the fobts/casino so although sports betting was not my problem it did in fact feed my true addiction (the machines)! I think you are in a similar place as in your 'controlled' sports bets are keep the gambling fire burning and then leads you to random gambling. You need to try giving up everything for a while at least. Get the blocks in place to prevent any gambling. Whatever approach you take i wish you all the best mate.

Never give up on giving up.

Take care mate

Dave

Hi captain.

The feeling i get when i don't bet is i guess one of achevment (soz i cant spell it).

The more i don't bet the more money i will have in the bank to spend on things. I think it is 9 or 10 days since my last gamble and tomorrow. i will have nearly £200 spare in the bank. If i gamble i would have nothing and probs owe money by now.

I just feel better off. and when i was in the bookies i never made any friends, so probs best to sit in the sun at home and have a beer instead. Im not missing anything. Oh and i have a big calender on my fridge which you can't help but notice. and i cross off every day i dont bet and it looks cool.

Hope you are ok and things are going well.

The summer is so boring without football and the weekend is so boring without gambling. Working hard all week just to pass time away at the weekend is no life.

When you are at work you long for the weekend, when it comes the weekend you think you may as well be at work. Groundhog life. Gambling has been all that has ever filled the gap for a long long time.

Havent lost any money today but have lost confidence in myself as a person recently as I totally realise that without gambling I dont function properly. Even if losing you at least have some emotion instead of just being flat.

Hi Captain. Sorry you are feeling so bored without gambling. Have you tried letting someone else have control of your funds so you have to go through that person before you have a bet? I am trying this at the moment and it seems to be working. Since you and I cannot seem to stay stopped this may be worht trying. I think it would help you stop the random gambling problem. Give it a go if you can find a conciliary to converse with!!

Captain, have a look at my diary page 34 i think early feb... your quote " the football is on if i win it goes towards debt and not bookies " you say you won 11k, as a point of interest would you mind telling us where that went...i will be so happy if you stuck by your word but somehow think you are kidding us and most of all yourself on mate..difficult times yes but reality check required i think...YOU WILL NEVER BEAT THIS LIFE RUINING HABIT MATE UNLESS YOU CHANGE YOUR ATTITUDE, good luck but somehow i think you will just not listen...

As posted on wp's diary in response to his post, my position is as follows:

I cleared 11K of my debts during the Jan- May period while betting on football only.

During the last few weeks I have lost 4K gambling on random rubbish because I am bored since the domestic football season finished. So on the positive side I am 7K better off debt wise than at start of year, albeit still massive debts to clear.

I respect complete abstinence views but my target remains the same, try and find other things to do to ease boredom during summer, then get back to football only betting in August.

Sorry to have to post this but too many people on here are getting a bit high and mighty and think that because they have successfully abstained for a while they can choose to criticise others.

Note well folks - not talking just for myself here - seems to be that some people can be easily forgiven for having a 'slip' or 'blip' by the 'high and mighty' gang but others just get criticised basically get told to listen and do as they are told.

I suggest that those who have been 'clean' for a while and cannot provide consistent and constructive guidance to all are at present adding no value on here.

In my opinion the main guys we should all look up to on here who have abstained for a while and who post the right way at all times are Ex-Gambler Jeff, Jasmine and A NEW LIFE.
