Hey Capn

Been busy here since my last visit! Glad to read your trying to stay away from all gambling till the footy season starts. Random gambling is a mugs game mate, but you know that. As you know I've respected your approach from day one and still do. Would like to bet on footy myself but I still don't think I have the self discipline. But you have demonstrated you do for 4 months no less. Just kick this random gambling nonsense into touch mate.

All the best

Dave

Thanks for support, appreciated.

I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that compulsive gamblers who have stopped for a long time and who say their lives are better are stating this from the point of view of obviously an improved financial situation and therefore reduced stress and worry, reduced impact on others.

This is all to be commended of course and I subscribe to an extent to the 'best things in life are free' saying but I have yet to read anything from a CG who has been away from gambling for a long time stating anything they have which replaces the excitement and the buzz, gives the adrenalin flow that gambling gives.

(For me the only thing which came close was involvement in competitive sport years ago and even with that it had to be an event like a Cup Final or scoring a goal rather than just playing a league match)

Living without gambling to improve ones finances and peace of mind is fine, living a life void of excitement is something else.

Not being a gambler meself im not in your head .......but working in a gambling environment i get to see the highs .... followed by lows . more lows ... and so on

what on earth is exciting about that ???

The nearly factor, the do you remember last time, the fact that even though you may have 'won' today you will most certaintly lose tomorrow.............. wheres the buzz in that???

(gawd should i have gone to speakers corner today 😉 ......im not judging you captain each to their own, but c'mon life is what YOU make it .......... create some different pleasures and excitments....

as always TC

Not been hiding Captn went off to Brighton for a few days ...... had a blast !!! 🙂

Anyway...........

I understand the competitivnes (bloody hell 5 mins and i still aint spelt it right) is that the same as this buzz you talk about.........????

You said that and the winning, but at the end of the day the money is just the fuel that allows the potential for the buzz???

IF you had to make a choice ........ would you give up the gambling side of it and just keep a record of your ' predictions' if you like??

Hi Captain,

I don't think anything really replaces the buzz from gambling. Something like free fall parachuting perhaps, but then thats not something you can just do at any time without any fore thought or planning.

Ive learnt/am learning to live without the buzz from gambling... and its kinda ok ya know. exercise acts as a partial replacement i think. But in any case the human body was never designed to live on those fight or flight hormones day in day out. Were only supposed to be buzzing when were running away from hungry lions if you get my drift. All the best.. S.A

Hai Captain, 1st posting posting on your diary. Tried your way many a time and always went back for a chase.

Each to our own, but really think atleast for me need to completely cut all gambling links! Sometimes the truth hurts and your past 6 months a real up and down and as mentioned earlier a real broken record!

None the less, and good luck in what you're looking for and possibly finding that illusive post that the majority of none gamblers seem to able to achieve through everyday activities

Paul, Kim, SA Thanks for posts.

For me the buzz is about feeling involved in gambling every day. You dont need to actually gamble every day to be involved. So for me, wanting to do only sports betting, thats about studying and planning for the next football or tennis bet.

When I'm not able to identify when the next sports bet is, e.g. end of football season and next bet could be start of next, I cant cope and need to get my buzz elsewhere and get involved in gambling any old rubbish.

Take into account I dont drink, smoke or do drugs, gambling is my only vice. I exercise plenty and that makes me feel good. I am committed to my job and get satisfaction from it although good days and bad like any job. I enjoy doing other stuff like reading and watching TV but none of this gives me the BUZZ, my next thing to look forward to, next target, the 'drug' that keeps my life moving forward.

There is a lot of admission in diaries and on chat on here that you simply cant replace the buzz. I have tried to find alternatives for a number of years with no success.

So at present I cant help thinking that I'd rather have the buzz of gambling than not have anything. ( The past week of not gambling and not studying for any future bets has been monotonous )

SA - you say we arent meant to have that adrenalin rush but I think everyone looks for something to give them a lift from time to time and some need it more than others. However of course if we get it through gambling and the feelgood factor is outweighed by the harm it does then obviously we need to look at the pros and cons.

Hi Captain

In reply to your Question.Has anyone found a replacement to take the place of our gambling buzz.

For me m8 i would say that i havent no.

Nevertheless i would count myself as a poor gambling i didnt really have big wins just plenty of big losses lol.

What i will say though kid is that buzz is more often than not followed by the same old sick feeling.Just as beer is followed by the hangover and drugs by the comedown.

So to me captain i had a choice and sometimes you have to make sacrifices.

I think you may well be right captain nothing replaces the buzz. But the buzz isnt the be all and end all.

There is life after gambling m8.

Like ive always said kid i dont push my opinion onto anyone.Everyone has different ways of dealing with this addiction. Can i ask you one thing though.

Why is your diary called Life WITHOUT sports bets?

All the best Jeff.

Thanks for stopping by Kim, appreciated.

Havent posted anything as nothing really much to post. Today did all usual weekend chores then watched Golf. Passes time but watching Sport without a bet on it just isnt the same.

I have just been so used to a life where when I'm involved in controlled Gambling and winning, my confidence level increases, my work performance is better and I get on and make improvements in life in general. When I'm involved in Random gambling and losing there are obviously dips in all of this but as long as I know there is another chance coming along that keeps me going.

Not being involved in gambling just leaves me feeling flat and with no enthusiasm. The only driver to control things is financial. I honestly feel I am a better person when involved in gambling, both for myself and others, as long as it is controlled, advanced gambling on sports only.

I believe this is comparable to smokers who feel more confident and perform better through that habits or even those who need Coffee or Chocolate to 'keep them going'.

But obviously with those comparatives it doesnt mean bank loans, credit cards and the possibility of losing your house!

Hi Captain,

As yet Im not feeling down about not gambling, still feeling possitive, although the thought did cross my mind last Monday about whether I can just bet on certain things. However, I know I cant. If I lost id chase, I always have, but i I won id get more confident and up the stakes which would inevitably lead to losses and more chasing.

I'm not saying you cant seperate your gambling but can you honestly say to yourself that you'd never bet temped into your RANDOM GAMBLING? If you cant be certain than dont even tempt it.

I CANNOT WIN BECAUSE I CANNOT STOP

Dave
