Capt

Good to speak to you again on Chat tonight. You seemed to have gone out of circulation for a while?!

My question tonight as to how you have been doing in recent weeks was not meant to be a controversial one! Hopefully, you will realise by now that I am a reasonably non-judgemental as to how individuals deal with their cg issues. Was genuinely interested as to whether your strategy is working with dealing with the gambling issue and the losses you were racking up?

All the best

Hi all, had to dig deep to Page 6 for my diary but found it. Havent posted for a while and only appeared on chat a few times.

Basically I have been gambling on only football since start of season save a couple of silly random bets. I have lost money overall but an affordable amount. I'm not stressed and I'm keeping in control.

I now have a challenge though. I will not be betting on midweek Johnstones Paint football or international football so the next bet I will have is not till a week on Saturday. As ever this will be a difficult time. I couldnt just stay away completely in the summer when there was no football but I'm telling myself its only 2 weeks and I'll be ok.

But already I'm thinking 'How will I fill the 20 odd hours a week I usually spend studying football and tracking scores'. Just one bet on anything else will trigger me back into a downhill spiral so I cant let it happen.

ALL credit to you Captain in going against the grain and attempting the controlled method of sports betting minus the random crxp..........

We're all diferent and with me as with the majority here realise that really cant afford the luxury you're persevering with........

Good luck.......

Capt

Good to see you posting on your diary. Miss your input into chat, but understand why you don't post as much now. Have followed your "story" and am still interested in it. Even if it goes "against the flow" of most of the advice given out on here. If you get the time sometime, would appreciate your advice on a few things? If you are happy to oblige, maybe you can let me know if there is some way to communicate? Such as me forwarding my email address to you or posting on the diaries a message and then deleted in once read?

In the meantime...

All the best

RayG

Thanks to Curly for waking me up!

I continue to place only football bets and now only on games where I can track the score but not view i.e. non-televised games.

Watching Soccer Saturday is the highlight of my week.

25 years ago I loved sport and watched it for the thrill. Gambling has taken that away. I maintain an interest in sports results and bet on football, but i now have no interest in watching sport if I dont bet on it, and I choose not to anymore.

Whether I will gain an interest in watching sport again in the future remains to be seen. For now I have to spend time pursuing other pastimes and with the exception of Saturday afternoons, living life without the drug of gambling. This makes for a dull life, but helps financially so that has to be the focus.

Best wishes to all who I have met on here.

Well well well if it isn't Rip Van Winkle.

Nice to hear from you Captain and great to see you are managing to stick to your football only betting.

Are you managing to stay out of the bookies at lunchtime then? I know like me you had a weakness for the lunchtime dogs and a bit of virtual.

I hope you can one day find it within you to enjoy sport for what it is as you are missing some great action.

All the best Captain.

Don't let anyone like me tell you it's possible to only gamble on certain things and stay controlled. It isn't. I've been trying to do this now for 6 years overall and have given it my best shot but CGs just can't do that so it's either completely stop gambling or just accept you can't and take what life throws at you.

Hi Captain.

You are a big man for posting that. As you know i have tried the controlled gambling route myself on numerous occasions and there has only ever been one result. Abject failure and financial misery.

I hope you stick around and make a real effort to put your gambling days behind you.

Good on you Captain!

Thinking by the previous determination to control rather than kick into touch was quite admirable. Was quite envious in away! Pretty sure you've got the will to hitting on the bonce.........

Well done pal.

You will get on just fine. It is just a question of adjusting to a life without gambling.
