So, I have been gambling for about 14 years now.
It got pretty bad and I ended up about £50k in debt. I got on a DMP with Stepchange, and I am now about £6k off being debt free. Its been about 4 years.
I was stressed and also bored a few weeks back. And I dropped about £2k into an online casino over the course of a few weeks. I then put another £200 in last weekend. I won £2k, put it all back in, and got up to £8k. I was super stoked - it meant I could pay off my debt. Of course, I thought I would have some more games, and I got it up to £27,500. "Holy f**k - I can actually afford now to quit my job and pursue the different career I want to". I was going to quit my job that monday morning, as I could pay off my debt, and have enough to live for over a year.
I withdrew. It was a weekend, so they take don't process the withdrawal.
...Needless to say, I lost the lot whilst sat on the toilet on the Monday morning!! I always knew I was going to.
I have put further amounts in since. And luckily, I am marginally up now over this whole episode, but not a lot.
My point to this, is that whilst you can be good for a number of years, it doesnt take much to get you back in. I am sick already of the feeling I get when I get gamble. I don't want it anymore. Its not even a good buzz. I just literally find it impossible to stop again.
My whole entire thought process at the moment is about playing Three Card Poker. I watched it the other morning (didn't bet) and watched as the dealer won 14 times in a row. I vowed I wouldn't play again...I did of course.
Last weekend I made over £750k of wagers on it - it is insane!
Anyway,I have excluded myself and am quitting whilst I am ahead, and going to continue training for a new career.
