Hi guys, after a week going cold turkey and not placing a single bet it was all going so well until I went on a 2 week gambling binge.

Then after a bad day at work I blew half of the profit I made on a quite fortunate streak. I'm talking £500 in an hour space of an hour, gone, down the plug.

I could of used it treat my girlfreind or pay off some gambling debt.

I was originally 7k in debt which is now down yo 5k, progress there but the gambling remains.

I need to stop now, and completely, I have today accepted that only total abstinence is the way forward. I can not regulate my gambling.

Making a diary last year, kept on the wagon for the longest I had been in a row. It really helped and I hope we can help each other once more.

Yes I'm up for the year, but the disease has led to mood swings, time lost and bad thoughts I wouldn't wish on anyway.

Day 1 will be tommorow.

What else can we do but keep trying eh?

All the best

Hello liam

ive read your struggle but it sounds as though you have the abilty to achieve your debt free and non gambler lifestyle you desire. You talk of a supportive girlfriend which if you maybe opened up more to could help you even more. What about family and your friends theyre key in any success. The worst thing to do is hide away from your problems, share your problems and urges with those who care, they will help no matter if you think they will cause you more anguish. Debt isnt the end nor is it something that you can later quash but if you do something irrational from those 'dark thoughts' you will only but hurt those around you more. The urges you have to gamble are the same urges everyone gets just you crave the excitement and thrill just like alot of others do too, but have no control of stopping unless you train your mind in to asking is this bet worth it? Chances are when looking at the bigger view its not. You enjoy writing these posts and they encourage and help others see that its not just them that are dealing with this addiction and that you an average joe can make yourself do something more reward worthy than a drastic bet on a roulette table or football bet. Dont do something you regret instead talk to your girlfriend and tell her when your around her its better then maybe she can help more or indeed move in or closer to you, or vice versa.

People have relapses we wouldnt be human otherwise dont punish yourself or your loved ones for something that can be fixed.

All the best liam hopefully this can help you like you have helped others and myself see that your trying to stop and although you dont see it your doing well.

Anytime

X
