I have been posting on the "overcoming gambling" section but have decided to make a diary which i can log my process as and when i feel.

I am currently 26 days without a bet and 1 day away from pay day after going the last 4 weeks with no money due to gambling my full wage.

I am getting quite big urges but have managed to see them off so far. I reckon this is the longest i have been without a bet in 4 years so i am proud. Just wan to get my life back on track and clear my debts and save.

I am well aware i am only 1 day away from having another bet and starting the viscous cycle all over again. So i must stay strong.

I am really nervous about getting paid on Saturday.

Thanks for listening.

J x

Hi James,

Firstly well done for going 26 days without a bet that's a great achievement in it's self mate, but as you know yourself the hard part starts again when you've got the money there tempting you even more.

Got paid myself today, but I limit myself to my finances now to ensure I trust myself more. Something you could look at doing is taking the essential amount that you need... For example - don't take your card out, just take cash for what you need etc.

But keep staying positive & hope your recovery continues to go well mate!

Hi James

A very well done for going 26 days without gambling. Like you, I gambled for about 3 years which resulted in massive debts. At my very worst, I would also gamble almost all of my hard earned salary, the minute it hit my account and subsequently, be left without any money for the remainder of the month. Looking back, they were really dark times for me, considering how sensible I was before this took a hold.

Luckily, I found this site and coupled with willpower and self control, I have managed to resume to some degree of normality again.

Pay day was always a big trigger for me and possibly still could be (although I know I would never gamble all of my salary ever again). I have K9 installed on my laptop and on my phone, and my sister has put in a password so I cannot access any sites. This has been the best thing to just stop me in my tracks whenever any thoughts of gambling crossed my mind.

I am now into my 18 month of abstinence (with just a few hours "moment of madness") when I lapsed last year.

I wish you all the luck and strength in the world.

Take care and stay strong.

Eppy thankyou for you your kind words. I will definatley try that when i go in town for something to just take what u need in cash.. Then even if i was tempted i wouldnt have the funds. Hope your own recovery is going well?

Feb thankyou also for your response... 18 months is a fantastic achievement you are an inspiration to someone like me who has just completed a month that it can be done. I hope it gets easier with time? as at the minute it is proving difficult.

Thanks again gamble-free-family x
