Day 50.

Well I have reached my first milestone and feel great to have reached fifty days without gambling. The biggest improvement I have experienced in this time is what is happening between my ears. I am starting to appreciate the things that I have. My eyes have been opened once again.

In a funny kind of way I would pay good money to feel the way I feel at the moment compared with how I felt fifty days ago so what was the point of living that type of life. Many people have different ideas about this whether it be escapism, self destruction etc. I don't know. I only know that today I am not escaping from anything and I am no longer self destructing and I feel great for it.

Day 56.

No problems at the moment reference gambling, which is great. Work is brutal and has been since going back after Christmas. Our biggest customer are giving our work away to a foreign competitor but continue to place more demand on us with little return.

Short post tonight - need to get back to painting a bedroom. The joy.

Day 60.

No issues with gambling at the moment. I don't miss it at all and love the calmness without it.

I read somewhere else on the forum a post about never being able to replace the buzz of gambling. Again, I don't think of it this way. Sixty days on and I can only recall the hurt and fear caused by my last and worst ever loss. There is no sadness for me that I cannot gamble any more. This would only cause sadness if it were a completely enjoyable pastime. By the end it was completely destroying me. I think these thoughts are the reason for me doing far better today compared to this time last year and most definitely two months ago. Long may it continue.

Hi Tomso and well done on your 60 days gamble free.

Like you I don't miss gambling. Standing at slot machines was a purely self-destructive act for me. Just a way to blank out reality for a few minutes or a few hours. The consequences were frightening, much more frightening that the difficult times I am going through at the moment.

How's the running going. I was running 4 to 5 times a week, but due to illness and the weather its infrequent now. I intend to get back to it just as soon as I feel able. Cheers for now... S.A

Day 62

Nothing to report at the moment. Life ticking by and things continue to improve. I have an overdraft which continues to shrink each month. Personal spending is at a fraction of what it used to be when I gambled and smoked every day.

Today is my 50th day of not smoking and the longest I have ever went without smoking in 17 years.

Ditto from me. Well done on the non smoking. I've stopped for 29 days and for me this is the really big challenge for now. I've stopped gambling for 13 months but I seem to be one of the lucky ones who hasn't had urges to gamble in the time I've stopped (in spite of gambling for over 16 years)

Stopping smoking however is a different matter. Reading people's trials and tribulations with their gambling urges reads very much like my battle with the f**s.

In some ways smoking is harder to stop, due to the social acceptance of it. Anyway, good luck on both fronts

Day 65

Everything going along nicely for me. Trying hard to get myself back into a decent level of fitness after taking some time out due to unforseen circumstances. Two good morning runs behind me and although I didn't go out this morning I am already looking forward to getting out tonight,

So far ths year I have decided to stop the gambling and the smoking and now I am trying really hard to cut out all the rubbish I am eating. I have seen great improvement in my mental health this year and I want to tackle my physical health. There is nothing more important than being fit and healthy.

I read somewhere that my body is my vehicle for life. Depending on how I treat it will depend on the quality of life I have. 2014 will be the year when I decided to start being nicer to myself and treating myself with care.
