hi all its been 9 days since I last gambled and that may sound like nothing but to me it's a lot. This time bought a lot of new emotions with it pushing my partner of 8 years away. It also surfaced a lot of personal problems I have been facing with depression. Not going to lie, haven't slept, been sick and can't switch off from anything but I really want to give up gambling and hope that I can. When you no longer gamble for fun or money and you do it solely for the 'buzz' it has control. Wel I really want control back.

Hi Murray

In answer to your other post - I'm sorry to hear you're having such a difficult time. Sounds like you've used gambling as an escape mechanism, like most of us. It's great that you've got 9 days though and that you have barriers in place.

You mentioned not being able to see a way forwards - this is why considering your values is useful. If you're struggling just think 'who would I like to be ideally'? What kind of relationships would Iike to have with people? How would I like people to remember me if I passed away?

Try not to let self-limiting thoughts get in the way of setting your ideals - such thoughts aren't 'real' or 'fact'. They're just thoughts and you don't have to go with them.

You can then set (very small if necessary) goals to live by your values. If one of my values is 'health', then a mini goal might be just doing some research into local gyms or routes to run. If you can live by your values then you're being true to yourself and not living according to others' expectations. You take control of your life.

All the best
