My partner is the addict not me.
He is doing all the right things with 1-1 counselling, blocks on phone & bank, attending GA meetings, I have control of finances.
Honestly, I am pleased and proud of him but also still totally not over this at all. I am struggling with trusting him and cannot believe this is now my life,
every single day I am so upset and feel so alone. I feel he is having success everyday with not gambling and his debt slowly decreasing. But I don't feel happiness at all.
i am left 5 days a week 9-5 and 4 evenings a week whilst he works a huge amount to afford to pay of the debts. I am on maternity leave so money is tight anyway but I am left to care for my little boy the majority of the time and when he is asleep My attention turns towards the upset of gambling.
Our friends around us are all getting married and I really thought this would be us soon but that now feels a distant reality. It is so hard to feel pleased for these friends when that is all you really want for yourself!
PLEASE does anyone have any advice to help me? Would love to hear some success stories for a partners point of view to help me feel like this awful time of my life will pass and get better!?
@cockapoolover A lot of GA meetings have an affiliated meeting called Gam-Anon which is for partners and supporters of the gambler. I would ask your partner to see if their meeting has one. If not Google gam-anon and see where your nearest meeting is. There you will find others like you who understand what you’re going through and if you get a chance to go to a gambler’s anonymous meeting you’ll see lots of success stories. As long as the gambler puts the effort in this illness can be kept at bay.
Chris.
@chris-uk thank you so much for your reply. Funnily enough my partner had a GA meeting last night and came home and said that they are arranging to have a meeting where partners/family members etc will be invited to go. This has given me something to look forward to as I feel it will really benefit me. Thank you so much ☺️
