Hi folks

I thought it would be useful (certainly for me) to get a sense of the methods / tools people used to successfully quit.

I’m a month clean and the following has been super helpful:

- GAMSTOP (blocks all online sites)

- I did an online course that reframed my thinking about what I was giving up to continue gambling (happy to pass on details if anyone interested)

What else has worked for people? Counselling? Been paired with feels recoverers to give sense of accountability? Anything else?

The best solution for me was to eliminate my access to ready cash. I turned over all finances to my wife. My paycheck gets direct deposit into her bank account for which I do not have the password. I get a tiny allowance for snacks and that's about it. She pays all the bills. By not having much money I cannot lose much. Even if i gamble away my little allowance, no harm done really in the overall scheme of things.

Thanks for sharing. That makes sense.

Any other thoughts?

It seems to me that there are not as many good services than for alcohol and smoking but maybe I’m missing some

Many individuals benefit from professional counseling or therapy to address the underlying issues contributing to their gambling habits. Therapists can provide guidance, support, and strategies to cope with triggers and stressors. Practices like mindfulness meditation, along with maintaining a healthy lifestyle, can help manage stress and cravings. Consider incorporating activities such as exercise, hobbies, or exploring new interests to divert your focus. Moreover, embracing mindfulness techniques, like practicing meditation, can improve self-awareness and provide healthier ways to cope with challenges.
