GamStop Query

Hi folks, having read a few articles online recently with regards to problem gambling, I stumbled across an article from January about the flaws that were in GamStop.

Having been told last year that all UK gambling companies had to be signed up to GamStop by the end of 2018, I noticed that the GamStop site still says that they are in their ‘first phase’. Does that mean that still, in July 2019, that all companies are not signed up yet? If so, why the massive delay? I’m sure I read of one company recently who refused to sign up to it because it doesn’t believe it to be fully functioning and foolproof.

Hi DeterminedDan,

With regards to your query about GamStop -

Unfortunately not all operators are signed up yet, (more info on the Gambling Commission website at http://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/for-the-public/Safer-gambling/Self-exclusion.aspx ) although we are not currently aware of why this may be.

We know that GAMSTOP are continuing to work on the system to make it as robust at it can be, and as soon as there is an update available we will share this.

Best wishes

Alex

Thanks Alex for your swift reply.

I’m surprised this lengthy delay has seemingly gone unnoticed by people who have bought into the GamStop scheme. Questions have to be asked as to why this is taking so long to get right.

Gamstop is a good starting point as a preventative measure however you have to be willing to change and get better.

Just because you cant do something doesn't mean the urges stop.

More though can be done by gamstop as there are ways to bypass it which i wont mention here.

Speak to a gamcare adviser who will put you in touch will a local agency who have trained professionals who can help.

I totally agree, Torrio.

Thankfully, I am currently in a good place with regards to urges and temptations to go back to gambling. I am currently getting my life back on track and haven’t gambled in any sort of problematic way since the middle of December, 8 months ago.

I was just making the point that I have recently read about people who have found UK based casino’s that are not yet signed up to GamStop, and I was asking the question, why is it taking this long, when we were told that they’d all be signed up nearly 8 months ago?

I know they had their initial problems which were flagged up in early January, but I’d have thought that at the very least, an update would have been shared to let people know how they’re getting on with their latest attempts to tighten up the system. It almost seems forgotten about.
