I know everyone has different triggers but does anyone feel like the urge to gamble is worse at night?
Always was at night for me.
Once the house was quiet and my wife was asleep it was far too easy to reach for the tablet or phone and think I would just have a quick few spins before I went to sleep. Trouble was that would often turn into a few hours and a lot of money lost leading to chasing and staying up until 4.00 in the morning when I had inevitably lost all my available money.
One of the first things I started doing when I first tried to stop was leave my phone and tablet downstairs overnight. I dug out an old alarm clock as I previously used my phone as an alarm. It is quite a good thing to do anyway as technology in the bedroom is not good for sleep.
Having said that once I was in a period of gambling I would be at it pretty much any time of the day I thought I could get away with it but the initial urges usually came at night. Â
Its often a time when you reflect on the day and life in general. If its been a bad day or you are feeling a bit lonely in the twilight hours.
The biggest problem with deregulation is allowing gambling into peoples homes. Im so thankful I never gambled online and that needs to be said.
Its didnt save me though as my activities in town were more than enough to chuck thousands away.
You have to keep talking through what is on offer...all they are offering you is the drug of false expectation and thats what addicts become hooked on.
Its not an income scheme and you must do everything possible to get help and control those urges.
Im saying that the urges DO go away with a healthy mind.
Best wishes from everyone on the forum
Yep late nights are always the worst for me or the days when I am off and no one's at home.
No , any time was dangerousÂ
Could be 08:00 or 23:00 didn’t matter to me. Didn’t matter what time it was.Â
It makes no difference to me... morning noon or night... the urge to gamble can strike at any time.
Same with the weather. Hot cold, rain or snow... if I want to gamble it makes no difference
Hi S.A

Yes, late night was always the worst time for me as this is when the house would be quiet and I could sneak off to my bedroom and gamble without being caught. Since signing up to Gamstop I can no longer do that which is great.Â
My other key trigger is when I’m feeling alone/am alone and have nothing to do. That’s when the temptation is the worst.
Affected by gambling?
