Hi everyone

Ive been coming to this forum for while now and one of the first things I was recommended to do by all you wise people was get some counselling of my own, and I have.

Its been a bit of a wait and but Ive had my first session this morning and its been like a huge weight lifted off my shoulders, wish Id done it a long time ago. The counsellor has given me some things to do and try between now and the next time I talk to her and I already feel better.

I woulld like to say a big thank you to you all, particualry ,Pangolin, wal1957 and Amom, you were the first to speak to me on a very bad day, I really felt like I was at breaking point. My son isnt ready to get help and isnt in our lives at this moment, but for the first time in a very long time I feel ready to cope with what ever comes my way and strong enough to carry out the tough love he needs.

If you are like me and having any doubts please, keep coming to this forum heed what all these wise people tell you and look after yourself.

Thank you all 🙂

Hi as67

We are here to help if we can. By sharing your problems, you are helping a lot of people as well.

I have also noted that you are now using your experience with dealing with the gambling problems to help others as well. Don't underestimate your own contributions in helping other people on this forum.

Best wishes

Hi wal1957

I am feeling a lot better, I feel calmer and have a clear head and feel confident that we have done our best and made the right decisions for him and us. I appreciate the advice Ive had from everyone both people who have a loved one who gambles and from recovering gamblers, I never really knew what my son thought but thanks to you I do and it helps a lot.

Im ok and getting on with my life and have what I call normality and I really didnt think I would feel like this again. As I said earlier nothing has changed with our son and I know theres more testing times to come with him but I feel more able to deal with it.

I didnt realise just how far I had come until you pointed it out, I never thought I would be giving anyone else advice but feel confident enough to do my little bit now and then.

Thanks

So glad you you were able to talk to the counsellor as67! Talking and sharing gives us all some much needed perspective. This is certainly not an easy path we are on but you are doing everything you can to come out the other end whole and happy!

Take Care and hugs to you.

Cathy

Thankyou.

Never underestimate how much it helps me to talk too, if you didnt ask the question, then i would have lost one of those opportunities to talk and I do still need them so much. I am particularly encouraged by Wal's posts, If all our gamblers can someday reach that serenity that he shares, then we are all going to be just fine.

I'm glad the counselling has finally come around, that seemed like ages, such a relief, I remember the feeling well.
