How can members come off the forum without causing havoc by deleting all their posts?

Not planning to myself but it's being done again.

Thanks,

CW

It certainly does seem ludicrous that posts can be deleted after weeks, months & years! The edit button is, in my humble opinion, a necessity (I do get bleeped a lot & it's good to be able to change words so that my posts make sense) but surely, it should only be available for a particular time frame, say 24 hours!

Hi CW (and all)

We'd agree that members deleting posts can be a problem as it means that a lot of threads that others have contributed to don't make any sense. We would ask members to reflect before deleting all their content but as things stand there is nothing in place to stop this happening as all posts can be edited by their author.

A few years ago we did alter the edit function to something like ODAAT is suggesting, however it was felt by members that they would feel happier and more comfortable writing on the forum if they were able to edit content whenever they chose, especially as some content is of a nature they might reconsider putting on the forum at a later date. Because of members' feelings at the time the edit function was replaced as it is now.

We'd be happy to revisit this issue, although I imagine a lot of members would be against any change to what we currently have in terms of the edit function itself. As an alternative we can delete accounts without removing the content if a person wishes to leave, or we can replace the username with an alias if someone wishes to leave and no longer have their username associated with those posts.

Thanks

Rebecca

Seeing as Gamcare don't allow the closure of accounts (more of their little power trip) people who have had enough of the ignorance of the MODs and want to leave are only left with the option to delete their own posts.
