The near miss is the thing that keeps you coming back.First 5 up in a Placepot and then your final leg you get beaten for third place in a photo.Oh so close but no cigar.Thats gambling always hoping to reach the top of Everest but always forgetting the oxygen so having to return to base camp disappointed.

Hi DG, just a thought after reading your posts, go onto debtcamel.co.uk you have a chance of claiming back some of your pay day loans interest, it seems a lot of Loans at one time, there are template letters to send to pay day lenders to claim irresponsible lending, log on and see if they’d a chance of any refunds,? hope this helps? Keep going and keep strong! Also just a suggestion, be positive and maybe think of changing your profile name now?? It may help with the recovery, be positive about yourself, it’s never too late, Hope it goes well for you

Hi Karen9 thank you for your ideas. My profile name and reclaiming interest from payday loans are both possibilities I will consider in the new year. Was reading in the telegraph this morning about the profits b****5 are making and then turning to the feature section which was focusing on student gambling and had the tragic story of a young man who took his life in desperation. If truth been known it is through the help of others that I am alive today. If that rescue had not come my options where very limited.

Hey DG. Thanks for stopping by on my diary.

I've had a read through your posts. Seems like you have a lot going on at the moment. The tooth sounds like it's a pain. I hope you can get that sorted soon.

How have you been getting on with the withdrawals? I was very much a binge gambler so I was uses to not getting daily so luckily for me I'm not getting the withdrawals.

I do find myself looking at the tennis results though and wondering how I would have bet.

Anyhow, I hope you are doing well and keeping healthy and gamble free.

Just remember, we cannot win as we cannot stop.

RA

GAMBLE G is For Gambing A is For Away M is For Money B is For Before L is For Living E is For Expenses. Gambling away money before living expenses. This is the true nature of my behaviour on countless paydays.

Thanks ALN.Life is very straightforward for me now.Watch sport or read about sport and I will gamble again. Its a trade off I am happy with as enough is enough.I was like a slave to sport through gambling.Watching A league games on BT sport at 6am on a Sunday morning.Total Madness. Can now listen to audio books and buy food fit for a man rather than a dog.

ALN congratulations on getting past the 100 days.I am fully with you on the watching and reading about sport blackout. For us sport was just a slow roulette wheel. We can now use them hours far more productively.

Decided against DMPlan and instead got on the phone to Payday loan companies ans spent the afternoon extending the loan length from 6/9 months to 2/3 years. Was glad to get this done before tomorrow being payday. The income and expenditure took up the most time but that was to be expected. If I don’t watch sports or read about sports then these financial commitments will be honoured and there will never be a reason to go down this path again.

Thanks ALN and the same to you.Was grateful to wake up today without the desperate Gambler head controlling me on payday.By dealing with the Payday Loan companies yesterday I started today in a positive mood. Will be watching some drama on the BBC iPlayer and I can do my shopping at anytime tomorrow because the 3pm kick offs and Soccer Saturday mean nothing to me anymore.

Thank you ALN.Its raining this morning but that won’t ruin my day.My cat is sitting down in front of me and hopefully can notice a new calmness about me.Disapointments in life used to hit me very hard.I would take them personally and react badly.Because I gambled since I was sixteen years of age I realise now that I never grew up emotionally.I would retreat behind the gambling as I did not want to show my vulnerability. As I am still in the early days of recovery I will continue to post here and read the post of the young and old striving to break free.

Good day at work as I was more productive.Noticed on the bus to work how stressed I get if the driver goes

to slow or gets caught at the lights.Cannot focus on anything else or distract myself.Today I was pushing it fine but even when I am not in a rushi am still the same. Will get back to cycling when the weather improves.Maybe my nerves are effected by the gambling as it was the sort of feeling you get when it’s the 85th minute and you need a goal to save you.Apart from that I have no complaints on my new voyage.
