Hi guys

like to say hello and ask for some support and advice along the way down the hard and rocky road to recovery.

I been here before and managed to do 12 months clean but got sucked

back in by my demons and torture.

I honestly feel like this is make or break for me now am bored of feeling empty depressed and like s**t am starting to feel like this addiction is taking my life day by day hour by hour and am letting it.

Have signed up to gam ban and also on here so am hoping to kee a diary and a track off my absence and this can help me off load and remained focused.

I know it won’t be easy but i just pray and hope i find the fight inside me to get back up and on my feet from this living nightmare.

For the next hour and day i will try my best to remain gamble free

How about if you adressed the problem differently. You say you are depressed because of the gambling but you are actually gambling because you are depressed. What are you depressed about? Find out. Addictions is about repeating stuff. Make that action become secondary in your mind and how you actually feel primary.

The great escape and time killer wich we know as gambling addiction has an incredible way of s******g up our concept of reality. You need to find out  more about you. Make a plan. Talk to a a rep here and ask them to help you find someone to talk to. We cant fix the problem at home and alone. We need to get out there and make contact with people. So just do it.

Wish you well!

Well done on managing 12 months, that alone was a great achievement. In my opinion there is never a make or break time when breaking free of this addiction, but there are plenty of hurdles that need to be navigated, some you will clear, occasionally one trips us up. Get up and go again, C43h is correct in their opinion about tackling your depression, this is a trigger for you obviously. Looking forwards to hearing about your progress.

I understand what you feel. But we fall down that hole all the time. We are constantly programed by media to fall down that hole. Are you going to throw out the telly or the radio? It wont solve it. The only way of managing every day is to understand that the actions you do is beyond your conscious mind. Have you heard of Pavlovs dog experiment? This scientist called Pavlov created an experiment with2 dogs. He would ring a bell and give the dogs food. That would be repeated until the dogs would salivate regardless if there was food or not. They just needed to hear the bell. You just need the adverts.

The trick is to understand that EVERYTHING around your addiction is to be looked at with a somewhat holistic approach.

You need to be kinder to yourself because you could mess up again. You need to know more and you need to look at yourself from the outside and in to understand how you tick. See it wide not narrow.

Trust now and things will work out in time.

Forgive yourself. Have trust and move on.

Best

Here is chat gpts take on addiction

If you're a gambler struggling with addiction, it's important to understand that you're not alone and that help is available. Here are some steps you can take to start dealing with your addiction:

  1. Acknowledge your addiction: The first step in overcoming any addiction is to acknowledge and accept that you have a problem. This can be a difficult realization, but it's an important one to make if you want to move forward.

  2. Seek support: Reach out to friends, family, or a support group for gambling addiction. Talking to others who have faced similar challenges can be helpful in feeling less alone and more understood.

  3. Find alternative activities: Identify other activities that you can do instead of gambling. This could be anything from taking up a new hobby to spending time with loved ones. Having alternative activities to turn to can help reduce the urge to gamble.

  4. Avoid triggers: Identify the situations, people, or places that trigger your urges to gamble and try to avoid them. This might mean changing your daily routine or avoiding certain places.

  5. Seek professional help: Consider working with a therapist or counselor who specializes in addiction. Therapy can help you understand and work through the underlying causes of your addiction and develop coping mechanisms.

  6. Be kind to yourself: Addiction is a difficult journey, and it's important to be gentle and forgiving with yourself, even if there are setbacks along the way. Remember that recovery takes time and that it's normal to stumble along the way.

It's essential to remember that addiction is a treatable condition and that with the right support and resources, you can overcome it. Take the first step today and reach out for help.
