Here I am again, years later. Not stopped gambling since the last post, although I have put lots of stops in place. I have one bank account, that has a gambling block on it, I am also fully registered on gamblock. The way I am still able to gamble is via family. They know of my problems but I don’t think they like to say no and when I ask if I can transfer money and have a bet on there site/card they say yes. There’s a few gamblers in my family, my own sister also having a big problem. I am in no way blaming them, this is my own doing, but it’s literally the only way I can gamble as I’ve never set foot in a bookies ever. I’ve not done too bad lately, just the odd £5 bets a week but tonight I have lost £500 on slots on my sisters account and i feel physically sick. I have a little boy, he’s 6 and has autism and although this can be mentally hard work for us at times, he’s the most amazing little boy in the world and deserves more then a mum like me who spends far too much time and money gambling. I need to stop this for good and make a life for him that he deserves. It’s day 1 and I am determined to put all my past wrong doings right and not gamble, the hardest part at the minute is trying to drag myself out of this dark dark mental state I am in. Here we go again. 🙁

Hi Charliesmum. Well done for coming back. It’s a nightmare isn’t it? You are doing all the right things. You just need to get it through to your family. You are a compulsive gambler and you really want to stop forever and they’ve not to allow you to continue gambling. I hope we can support each other through this time. Come back every day. That’s what I’m going to do. This cannot carry on.

Hi.. to me it sounds like you gamble to escape stress and switch off. I guess you find yourself just sitting there zoning out to spinning reels, thinking your gonna win big, when in reality your just passing time not having to think or feel anything.

Ya gotta stress to your family, that you have got no "off" button when it comes to gambling. If you and your sister signed up to gamstop, it may help you both.

All the best... S.A

Hi @charliesmum23,

Welcome again to the GamCare Forum and for sharing your post.

I am sorry you are going through a really tough time at the moment, you are not alone in the way gambling can occupy daily lives for people. There is plenty of support available to you and you have made a really positive step today by posting your story.

It seems like you have tried lots of different strategies and I can see that you have the desire to stop gambling. It also sounds like gambling has become an overwhelming feature in your life, it is all consuming. Experiencing the ups and downs, chasing losses, and that sick feeling, is not uncommon so you are not alone. This is why it is crucial that you start making some changes in your routine and lifestyle because that’s what recovery ultimately is – a complete lifestyle change.

I would encourage you to make an appointment with your GP surrounding the dark mental state of feelings you are experiencing due to gambling.

Please feel free to contact the GamCare Helpline on 0808 8020 133 or Netline to explore the additional support available to you. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week if you would like to talk to one of the GamCare HelpLine advisers.

Keep posting and sharing

Regards

Dan
