Is he aware himself that he has a problem?I suppose all you can do is to be there...talk it out with him and show him your support. Advice on here suggests that it is not a good idea to bail him out financially. What type of betting is he doing?...Online in my opinion is the most dangerous as you can lose a huge amount in minutes. He needs to self exclude from the bookies or casinos or however he is betting. Dont know what else to say...I am a compulsive gambler...i am smart, have a good job etc but once the urge hits me its like my brain is hynotised so much that I cant help myslef. I know how it will end...by losing money but it doesnt stop me. Addiction is a very complex issue and I would avise you to read lots here and elsewhere to try and understand the problem. He is not doing it intentionally to ruin his life...he cannot help himself. At least if his problem is out in the open you can do something to help him. Secrecy is the devil that drives addictions like this. Be kind to him...show him support...dont judge him. No matter what you say to him, nothing can hurt him more than his self hatred for his own actions so be kind...be support...but let him know that it stops right here....right now.before he ends up in jail or worse dead from it.

Hi I would encourage GA meetings. Don't pay their debts. Call gamcare. Unfortunately you can't stop them. An addict will only stop when they realise their life is unmanageable.
